KADIN Chairmanship Race Postponed
The Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) decided to postpone its chairmanship congress from June 2-4 to June 30, 2021 at President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s behest. KADIN Indonesia also moved the location of the congress from Bali to Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.

Political parties continue to explore the possibility of forming a coalition even though the 2024 presidential race is still three years away. The Islamic party PKB, for example, is offering its party chairman Muhaimin Iskandar to be paired with the Chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), who is also the eldest son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). Earlier, PKB also offered Muhaimin to the ruling party PDIP as a potential running mate of Puan Maharani.

The fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri has said that she would like for the Indonesian government to continue its partnership with Russia, especially in the aerospace sector. Megawati, who is also the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP, said that she had advised President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on said matter. This is fresh air for Russia, which has been wondering about the future of its deal with the Indonesian government on the sale of 11 units of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets worth Rp16.76 trillion.
Military Procurement: The Controversies
The Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, who is also the chairman of the Gerindra Party, finally answered the call from the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission for a hearing on Wednesday (June 2). At the heart of Wednesday’s hearing is the controversy surrounding the fantastic defense budget worth Rp1.7 quadrillion for modernizing the country’s primary weapons system (alutsista) mentioned in the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) drafted by the Defense Ministry. Eko Margiyono & Military Commander Succession
The Commander of the Indonesian Military (Panglima TNI) Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto has instituted another round of job rotation. This latest job rotation affects Eighty high-ranking military officers from the three military branches, including those in the strategic positions such as the commander of the Army’s Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad), the military general chief of staff (Kasum TNI), territorial commander, and intelligence chief. Some believe that this rotation is a part of the preparation ahead of the succession of the Military Commander.
The New Pangkostrad
The Commander of the Indonesian Military (Panglima TNI) Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto appointed Major General (Maj. Gen.) Dudung Abdurachman as the new commander of the Army’s Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad). Dudung, who is known as a firm and no-nonsense figure who dared to impose discipline on Rizieq Shihab and his hardline group in the capital city, will get his three-star rank following the appointment. Some believe that Dudung is now the frontrunner to become the next Army Chief of Staff (KSAD).
