Political parties are already scrambling to explore the possibility of forming a coalition and pairing presidential candidates for the 2024 presidential election, even though the race is still three years away. Recently, a politician from the ruling party PDIP Effendy Simbolon made a suggestion for his political party to pair Megawati Soekarnoputri’s daughter Puan Maharani with the Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan rather than with Prabowo Subianto. The Islamic party PKB, meanwhile, came up with a different idea of pairing Puan with its party chairman Muhaimin Iskandar.
