The current Military Commander, General Andika Perkasa, only has a month left before entering his mandatory retirement age. The question is not just about who will become Andika’s successor, but also about the future of the General once his term ends because his name has been mentioned as potential candidate for 2024 race.

Connecting the Dots: Ganjar-Ridwan?

KIB, a coalition of Golkar Party with PAN and PPP, will hold a meeting in Makassar, South Sulawesi this weekend on Nov. 6, 2022. The upcoming meeting is worth highlighting because the three political parties will discuss about presidential and vice-presidential candidates from the coalition. PAN, a political party led by Zulkifli Hasan, will likely propose Ganjar Pranowo-Ridwan Kamil pairing in the meeting.

PDIP on Jokowi-Megawati

The relationship between President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Megawati Soekarnoputri has always been a subject of speculation ahead of 2024 race. In that regard, Secretary General of the ruling party PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, recently made an interesting statement. Hasto stated that Megawati and President Jokowi will have an intensive meeting before PDIP announces its presidential candidate.

Six retired generals have joined the ruling party PDIP. One of them is Lt. Gen. (ret) Ganip Warsito, former chief of staff of the Indonesian Military (Kasum TNI) and former head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

Anies Baswedan, who has secured nomination as president candidate in 2024 from NasDem Party, has visited Islamic boarding school Genggong in Probolinggo (East Java) and Ar Raudhah, Surakarta (Central Java) this week. Some see this as an early ‘campaign’, of course. He is not alone. Prabowo Subianto, who might be Anies’ competitor in the race, visited Genggong earlier in April.

Aside from that, it’s also important to monitor Heru Budi Hartono, Anies’ successor in Jakarta, because his actions could affect Anies’ rating ahead of 2024.

Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno won the majority support from the supporters of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a presidential convention called Musyarawah Rakyat (Musra) held in Pekanbaru, Riau province. In a previous convention in Bandung, West Java, Sandi also got the most support after President Jokowi. The convention is worth highlighting to help us understand the preference of the President’s supporters ahead of 2024 race.

New Poll: Ganjar Still Frontrunner

The latest survey results from the Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) shows that Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo is still leading the poll. Ganjar is waiting for the nomination from his own political party, PDIP. On the other hand, some parties like PAN, PPP, and PSI have already expressed their interest to endorse the Governor.
