Polling agency Y-Publica found Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo (who is also a politician from the ruling party PDIP) leading the poll with an electability of 20.2 percent. The agency also polled the electability of the House Speaker of Puan Maharani. The daughter of the PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri has a less than one percent electability.
The New BNPB Chief
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has sworn in Lieutenant General (Lt. Gen.) Ganip Warsito as the new chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). The latter replaces Lt. Gen. Doni Monardo, who has just entered his mandatory retirement age. The inauguration took place at the State Palace Jakarta on Tuesday (May 25).

Tension is flaring inside the ruling party PDIP, especially between Puan Maharani and Ganjar Pranowo, the Governor of Central Java. Ganjar was not invited to the PDIP’s event that Puan attended in Central Java. Many believe that it is a political fight related to the 2024 presidential race, with a ticket from PDIP at stake.

The tension continues to build up ahead of the chairmanship congress (Munas) of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia). Anindya Bakrie and Arsjad Rasjid are competing against each other in the race. Both formally registered their candidacy on Monday (May 24).

The Gerindra Party reiterates its intention to endorse its party chairman Prabowo Subianto, who is now the minister of defense, for the presidency in 2024. Unlike the other polling agencies, the Akar Rumput Strategic Consulting (ARSC) found the Democratic Party in the top three rank of political parties behind PDIP and Gerindra. It’s odd because the other polling agencies had found the electability of Democratic Party remaining insignificant.
Military Procurement: Prabowo’s Statement
On Thursday (May 20), the Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, who is also the chairman of Gerindra Party, chaired a meeting of the Defense Industry Policy Committee (KKIP) at the office of the Defense Ministry. In the said meeting, Prabowo delivered some important points, including a commitment to make sure that transfer of technology (ToT) would be included in every procurement of the military equipment (alpalhankam) as demanded by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

As predicted, the Chairman of Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) did not attend the mediation session held on Thursday (May 20) at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN Jakpus). The Mediation Judge Bernadette Samosir decided to reschedule the session to June 3 and asked AHY to attend. So the settlement of the dispute with the Democratic Party led by Moeldoko has been postponed once more.
