The Head of the Golkar faction in the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Idris Laena shared his worries that the plan to amend the 1945 Constitution might be used to smuggle a certain political agenda. The length of the presidential term could be changed to three periods, Idris said. He’s worried that such a move would ruin the legacy of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. He noted the recent coup in Guinea as an example.

Some believe that the military commander (Panglima TNI) succession process is related to the upcoming cabinet reshuffle. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo could use the momentum to accommodate PAN in the cabinet by making Commander Hadi Tjahjanto a minister ahead of the Commander’s upcoming retirement.

The General Election Commission (KPU) is drafting the stages and schedule of the 2024 simultaneous presidential, legislative, and regional elections. The said draft is a follow up of the agreement the KPU reached with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II.

The Selection of BPK Member

Today, Sep 7, the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI will conduct a fit and proper test over 16 candidates of the Supreme Audit Agency’s (BPK) member. The fit and proper test will be held for two days until tomorrow (Sep 8). Later, the Commission XI will elect one among the said 16 candidates as a new BPK member to replace Bahrullah Akbar, who will end his term by Oct. 27, 2021.

A Tendentious Survey (4)

A survey from the Centre for Strategic Actions (CISA) places the Chairman of Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), who is also the eldest son of the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), at the top three electability ranking. According to CISA, AHY’s electability is even higher than Prabowo Subianto’s.

Eko Margiyono & Military Commander Succession (2)

Several media outlets are starting to mention Lt. Gen. Eko Margiyono as an alternative to the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Andika Perkasa and the Navy Chief of Staff (KSAL) Admiral Yudo Margono for the position of Military Commander. Eko serves as the General Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Military (Kasum TNI).

The most recent survey conducted by the polling agency Indikator Politik Indonesia has interesting findings on the electoral effect of the flaring tension between Puan Maharani and Ganjar Pranowo. Indikator found that said tension has somehow helped Ganjar significantly increase his electability and popularity.

Awaiting Jokowi’s Military Commander Nominee

The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I confirmed that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has not yet submitted the nominee for the Military Commander role. The Commission I has asked the President to do so soon because Military Commander (Panglima TNI) Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto only has two months before mandatory retirement greets.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held another meeting with five other members of his ruling coalition at the State Palace Jakarta on Wednesday (Sept. 1). This time, the President met with the leaders of five political parties that had no seat in the House of Representatives (DPR).
