Pollster Charta Politika, in the results of its electability survey, found Prabowo Subianto leading the poll in South Sumatera with substantial margin. Ganjar Pranowo, meanwhile, leads the poll in North Sumatera and Lampung, but with a razor-thin margin compared to Prabowo.
Another Rejection for AHY
Golkar Party, the second largest political party in the country, refused the Democratic Party’s call to form a coalition for the 2024 presidential race. Golkar is the second political party that publicly rejected a coalition with Democratic Party after the ruling party PDIP.
Political Event to Watch: Rapimnas Gerindra
The upcoming National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of Gerindra Party that will be held by the end of this month or early next month is truly interesting to watch. In the Rapimnas, Gerindra will declare Prabowo Subianto’s 2024 presidential bid and, perhaps, announce Prabowo’s running mate as well.
The Acting Governor of Aceh (2)
As predicted, the former Territorial Commander (Pangdam) of Iskandar Muda Maj. Gen. (ret) Achmad Marzuki has been appointed acting governor of Aceh to replace Governor Nova Iriansyah, who has just ended his term yesterday (July 5). The inauguration ceremony for Achmad Marzuki will take place today (July 6) in Aceh.
Speculation on Megawati’s Successor
Puan Maharani has been tasked by the Chairperson of the ruling party PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also her own mother, to consolidate the Party and to lobby the other parties ahead of 2024 elections. Some speculate that the task is a signal from Megawati that she’s preparing Puan to become her successor and lead PDIP.
Tjahjo Kumolo’s Replacement (2)

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is on a working visit in Semarang, the capital of Central Java province. In Semarang, the President is expected to lead the ceremony of the Bhayangkara Day today (July 5), or the 76th birthday anniversary of the National Police (POLRI). The Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, who has been mentioned as one of the potential candidates for Tjahjo Kumolo’s replacement, will likely accompany the President in his visit.
Prabowo’s East Java Visit
The Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, who is also the chairman of Gerindra Party, has been very busy for the past few days. Soon after returning to Jakarta from his overseas visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE) to accompany President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Prabowo visited East Java province on Sunday (July 3). Prabowo’s visit to East Java is worth highlighting in light 0f the 2024 presidential race, especially given that he’s looking for a potential running mate.
Tjahjo Kumolo’s Replacement
Some figures from the ruling party PDIP have been mentioned as potential candidates to replace Tjahjo Kumolo as the new Minister of State Apparatus & Bureaucracy Reform (Menpan RB). However, PDIP has yet to officially propose any name to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
