While closely watching investigation by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) on corruption case at BAKTI, an agency under ministry of communication and informatics (whose current minister is secretary general of NasDem Party), let’s talk about NasDem, which has nominated Anies Baswedan as president candidate in 2024 election. We’re not saying BAKTI corruption case might drag NasDem, but who knows.
Paloh’s Next Maneuver
The Nasdem Party confirms that its party chairman, media mogul Surya Paloh, will soon meet with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), the supreme leader of Democratic Party, and Salim Segaf Aljufri, the supreme leader of the opposition party PKS. This upcoming meeting is crucial on determining whether Anies Baswedan, who has been nominated as presidential candidate by Nasdem, can get a ticket to enter 2024 race or not. If they fail to reach an agreement in the meeting, what’s the alternative option for Paloh and his Nasdem Party?
Awaiting Megawati’s Decision (2)
Kompas, the largest newspaper in the country, reported that the Chairperson of the ruling party PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri has made a decision on who will be nominated as presidential candidate for 2024 race. However, the name of the candidate and the date of the announcement remain a mystery. We might find out soon because there’s a possibility that Megawati announces her decision in the PDIP’s 50th anniversary event next Tuesday.
Those Opposing Perppu on Job Creation
It’s not surprising to see the opposition parties reject the new Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 2/2022 on Job Creation issued by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. What’s worth highlighting more is a harsh criticism over the Perppu from law expert and former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK), Jimly Asshiddiqie. Jimly, who is now a member of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), talked about a potential impeachment of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo due to the issuance of the Perppu.
The Latest Electability Survey
The Indikator Politik Indonesia has released the results of its latest electability survey on Wednesday (Jan 4). The pollster found some interesting findings, including the correlation between the level of public satisfaction over President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the electability of presidential candidate who is potentially being endorsed by the President. The survey results have also raised some questions.
Jokowi’s Meetings
In the last few days, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met with some key leaders of political parties within his ruling coalition in separate meeting sessions at the State Palace Jakarta. These meetings are worth highlighting not only because it occurred amid rumors of a cabinet reshuffle, but also in light of 2024 race. There could be more meetings held by the President that we should continue to monitor.

The tension is heating up between the ruling party PDIP and the Nasdem Party in the midst of rumors regarding cabinet reshuffle. PDIP is confident that the reshuffle will happen soon, and the Party urges ministers from Nasdem, a political party led by media mogul Surya Paloh, to resign from the cabinet.

The opposition party PKS stated that one of the Party’s considerations before determining the future of its potential coalition with Democratic Party and Nasdem Party is the decision from Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP. PKS, like everyone else, is waiting for Megawati’s decision regarding PDIP’s presidential candidate for 2024 race.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asks people to wait for his decision on cabinet reshuffle. This is the third time the President made a statement about the matter within the last few weeks. Even though it’s a brief one, it’s enough to convince people that the reshuffle will be happening soon.
