Revisiting the Bank Century Scandal: Hartanto Edhie Wibowo
Last week, the KPK summoned Hartanto Edhie Wibowo, the brother-in-law of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, for questioning in relation to the Bank Century graft case. Hartanto was once at the center of the discussion regarding the Bank Century scandal after the release of an audit report made by the Supreme Audit Agency examining the bailout scandal.

The Indonesian House of Representatives is on a roll. After passing the controversial Regional Elections Bill, the House is supposedly ready to deliberate on the passage of the Banking Bill. We’ve obtained the final draft of the Bill, and article 35 states rather explicitly that the share ownership cap for foreign citizens/entities is 40 percent maximum.
Labora Sitorus & Fat Bank Accounts
The Supreme Court’s panel of judges led by Supreme Justice Artidjo Alkostar sentenced police inspector Labora Sitorus of the Raja Ampat Police to 15 years jail time for having been proven guilty of committing corruption and money laundering. In addition to the 15-year jail term to Supreme Justice Artidjo Alkostar and his co-judges also ordered the defendant to pay Rp5 billion in fine on top of serving an additional 1 year imprisonment.
The Legalization of Suicide
Last May, a Jakarta resident identified as Ignatius Ryan Tumiwa (48) filed a judicial review of article 344 of the Criminal Code to the Constitutional Court. Ryan sought to legalize euthanasia, the attempt to end one’s life in peace, that, according to said article of the criminal code, is punishable by law.
Law Journal: Corruption in the City Hall
The State Prosecutors are investigating a number of corruption cases that have brought down several bureaucrats at the Government of the Capital City of Jakarta and others affiliated with the city administration. The most recent development being the announcement of former head of Jakarta’s Head of Public Works Ery Basworo as a corruption suspect in garbage filtration project implemented between the period of 2012-2013.
The Jakarta International School Case
The trial for the sexual abuse case of a 5 year-old Jakarta International School kindergarten student started on August 26 at the South Jakarta District Court. The five suspects tried are the school’s outsourced janitors from PT Integrated Service Solution (ISS), namely, Afrischa Ayani, Zainal Abidin; Virgiawan Amin Bin Suparman; Syahrial and also Agun Iskandar. The five suspects are assisted by a team of lawyers that include Saut Irianto Rajaguguk of Saut Raj & Partners Law firm and also Patra M Zen, the former chairman of the Indonesian Legal Foundation (YLBHI), who was once the lawyer of Hartati Murdaya Poo.
Suspect Jero Wacik
A few hours ago, the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) held a press conference and made the announcement that, as per their letter of investigation dated Sep. 2, 2014, a man with the initial JW was officially named suspect in a graft case at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The initial is reportedly that of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested five persons including family member of Karawang Regent Ade Swara and someone from property development Agung Podomoro Land on Thursday (July 17) in a corruption case.
BRI Pension Fund vs Joko Tjandra
Officers from Central Jakarta District Court accompanied by State Attorneys and tens of military officers have on Tuesday (July 8) executed the court’s ruling, which ordered PT Mulia Persada Pacific (owned by Joko Tjandra) to transfer BRI II office tower, parking lot, and other facilities to Pension Fund of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI).
