Pressure on KPU
The 2015 simultaneous regional elections are on the horizon, but as days pass, complexity grows. The UU No. 8/2015, which amended Law No. 1/2015 on Simutaneous Direct Regional Electon (UU Pemilukada), has a clear definition of incumbents for barring conflict of interests in elections. But the General Election Commission (KPU) decided to come up with their own slightly modified definition of incumbent, and worse they released their policy in the form of a Circular Letter No. 302/VI/2015 (SE 302), a legal form that is not recognized by the law as legally binding.
New Policy for Foreign Workers
The Indonesian government plans to adjust the requirements for the employment of foreign workers (TKA).The ministry is currently conducting a revision of the Regulation of the Minister of Labour (Permenaker) No. 12/2008 on Procedures to Employ Foreign Workers. This revision would increase the number of requirements to be met by a foreign worker before accepted to work in Indonesia. The Minister of Labour and Transmigration Hanif Dhakiri told the press that his ministry will apply Bahasa Indonesia Ability Test for TKA wanting to work in Indonesia. In the near future, a TKA must be able to speak Bahasa Indonesia.

Tax Office has campaigned new motto for 2015: Reach the Unreachable, Touch the Untouchable! We didn’t realise the motto until we met a property businessman in a cafe two weeks ago. He basically complained about aggressive actions from tax officers against businessmen, including traders at the Tanah Abang market, which is the largest in Southeast Asia.
Waduk Jatigede to the Finish Line
The Jatigede Reservoir (Waduk Jatigede) has entered the final stage of development with the target of watering the reservoir at the beginning of August 2015. Waduk Jatigede has the length of 1,715 meters, with the height of 110 m, and catchment area of 1,462 km2. This dam will help with the irrigation of 90,000 hectares farmland. There’s installed capacity of 110 MW electrical generation potential, with an average production of 690 GWH/year. PT PLN is working on the electricity part of Jatigede to operate in 2019.
Corruption in the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries
The Special Crime Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the Jakarta Metro Police (Polda Metro Jaya) is making progress in their investigation into alleged corruption in the Directorate of Infrastructure and Facilities at the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries (KKP). The Metro Jaya police is expected to complete their field investigation in Sulawesi soon. The media is anticipating an announcement of suspects.
KPK & DPR on Rini & Mitratel Deal
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has warned minister of state-owned enterprises Rini Mariani Soemarno regarding share swap deal between PT Telkom Tbk (TLKM) and PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure (TBIG) on tower company Mitratel.
The e-KTP Case Continues
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) continues to investigate allegations of corruption in the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) related to the procurement of Identity Card (KTP) management system, otherwise better known as e-KTP. The disgraced Democratic Party Treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin was the one who came up with the allegations. Nazar reported the details of the case to the KPK through his lawyer Elza Syarief.
