Merpati Airlines and Kim Johannes Mulia

The time limit in the process of Suspension of Debts Payment (PKPU) of Merpati Airlines was extended for 30 days on September 3, 2018, after the Company finally signed an agreement with its new investor. Several national media outlets confirmed that the investor is PT Intra Asia Corpora, lead by one Kim Johannes Mulia, the name we have mentioned since the beginning of this year.

Another Loss for Bayan Resources

The Singapore Court of Appeal recently published the verdict in relation to the appeal petition submitted by PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN) and its subsidiary Bayan International Pte Ltd against the second tranche judgment of the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) in the proceedings brought by Binderless Coal Briquetting Company Singapore Pte Ltd (BCBCS) and Binderless Coal Briquetting Company Pty Ltd (BCBC), the subsidiaries of White Energy Company Limited (ASX: WEC), in connection with the long battle on the joint venture in Kalimantan, i.e., PT Kaltim Supacoal (KSC). The Court decided to dismiss the appeal petition in relation to all of the four main issues except for one matter.

Soemarli Lie v. Minanto Wiyono et al

For the past week, national newspapers published announcements made by the representatives of one Soemarli (or Soemarli Lie) and one Ng Min Hong (now Minanto Wiyono). The parties had a dispute over the sales of shares of Success Overseas Finance Limited (Success), a Company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, in PT Pancadaya Perkasa.

Lawsuit against Bank J Trust

On September 4, 2018, the Central Jakarta District Court registered a tort lawsuit filed by one  Gavin Goh Meng Meng, a Singaporean businessman, against several parties including Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan and PT Bank J Trust Indonesia Tbk (BCIC). Development on Corruption in Malang

In the second week of August 2018, the Corruption Court of the Surabaya District Court read the verdict for Moch. Anton, the former mayor of Malang, who was named a suspect for the allegation of his involvement in a corruption, which was uncovered last year. Anton was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment and several other people who were named suspects along with him have been convicted. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also named dozens of new suspects earlier this year, most of them are members of the Malang DPRD. Recently, the KPK said that they have named 40 of the 45 members of the DPRD Malang suspects in the case.

The Future for Internet of Things: The Kartin1 Card and Access to Civil Registry

In March last year the Directorate General of Taxation (Ditjen Pajak) of the Ministry of Finance launched an identity card that is integrated with the Taxpayer Card (NPWP). The “Kartu Indonesia 1”, stylized as “Kartin1” (pronounced “Kartini”), was produced as a prototype. But after the launch, news of the card seemed to dissipate. Bank Indonesia has not approved of the card for public distribution.

PKPU and Bankruptcy Journal: Sariwangi and AISA

PT Sariwangi Agricultural Estate Agency (Sari Wangi AEA Co Ltd – Sariwangi) and its subsidiary PT Maskapai Perkebunan Indorub Sumber Wadung (Indorub) first escaped bankruptcy in September 2015. Since then both companies also escaped several other similar lawsuits. Entering August 2018, both must again face a lawsuit demanding a cancellation of the peace agreement promulgated in 2015.
