The Indonesian government has been eager to create an undersea fiber-optic cable network across the country to offer affordable as well as fast Internet access to all people. This project is the Palapa Ring project that is expected to be fully completed by August 2019. Main challenge of this project is the eastern part of Indonesia where nature is rugged.
