A New Saudi Ambassador?

It appears that Dr. Osama bin Mohammed A-Shuaibi is no longer the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (or Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques) to the Republic of Indonesia. The person that has reportedly stepped in to the role is none other than Osama’s deputy, Yahya bin Hassan Al-Qahtani. As of January 3, 2019, the Saudi Embassy still referred to Al-Qahtani as the chargé d’affaires, but the National Leadership of the Nahdlatul Ulama has already called him the new definitive Ambassador.

Bad Start of the Year for DGIK

The Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court have declared PT Duta Graha Indah (now PT Nusa Konstruksi Enjiniring Tbk, otherwise identified in the IDX as DGIK) guilty of corruption. DGIK was ordered to pay a fine of Rp700 million. The Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court also ordered the Company to pay Rp85 billion as compensation. In addition to that, DGIK cannot enter any government procurement process for the next six months. Failure to pay the demanded fine and compensation would result in seizure of assets.

Another Challenging Year

Asian stocks might open lower to tracking Wall Street today. Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) ended lower by 2.83%, while Nasdaq composite fell 3.04%, dragged down by technology stocks. Apple, for example, collapsed 10% on revision of its Q1/19 guidance, while Amazon and Alibaba down 2.5% and 4.5% respectively. Gold, meanwhile, advanced 0.7% to US$1,295 as investors seeking safe heaven.
