The Government of Indonesia targets to produce 485 million metric tons (MT) of coal this year, a 5% higher compared to last year (461 million tons). Domestic coal consumption only reached 97 million tons, below projection, due to the failure of steam power plants in realizing their operational targets last year. Under the government’s national medium term plan, coal production is expected to reach 400 million tons by 2019, 60% of which will be consumed domestically.
