Sandiaga, Bawaslu’s Investigation & SBY’s Decision?

The Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Party Andi Arief has once more failed to answer the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu)’s summon for a questioning (Aug. 27). He’s been asked to answer questions on his accusation that Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno had given Rp500 billion each to PAN and PKS as dowry for becoming Prabowo Subianto’s running mate. Has Andi Arief deliberate ignored the summons per the advise of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)? Has there been a compromise between SBY and his Democratic Party with Prabowo-Sandi? Will this push the Bawaslu into closing their investigation?

The Deputy Secretary General of Democratic Party Andi Arief said that he will answer the call from the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) for a questioning today (Aug. 24). The questioning is related to Andi’s accusation that Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno gave Rp500 billion each to PAN and PKS as dowry/tribute for letting him become Prabowo Subianto’s running mate.

Sandiaga Uno recently made headlines after Prabowo made him his running mate for the 2019 Presidential Election. Sandiaga’s nomination was coupled with controversial allegation made by the Democratic Party’s Andi Arief, that Sandi was chosen in exchange for monetary compensations. The parties were enraged by Andi Arief’s allegation but soon Sandi admitted that he gave money to several parties, albeit not as tributes but as campaign funds.

Pressure is high on Prabowo Subianto’s camp. At the heart of it is the competition for Prabowo’s running mate position. Recently, the Deputy Secretary General of Democratic Party Andi Arief, who is also former special staffer for Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), said that the Democratic Party could step out of Prabowo’s coalition due to Prabowo’s running mate selection. But this morning (August 9), Prabowo is scheduled to hold another meeting with SBY to discuss the matter.
