Military Commander Nominee

Pretty much as predicted, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo nominated General Agus Subiyanto as the next Military Commander (Panglima TNI) to replace Admiral Yudo Margono, who will soon enter his mandatory retirement age. General Agus has just been sworn in as the new Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) six days ago. Agus’ nomination as Yudo’s successor will trigger major rotation in the Army.

The Leftovers

We have three pairings of presidential and vice-presidential candidates that will compete in the 2024 presidential election. How about the figures that had previously been mentioned as potential candidates but failed to enter the race? There’s a question of whether they will join the three presidential camps or choose to stay out of the race.

Possible Major Rotation to Watch in the Army

Less than a month before ending his term, Military Commander (Panglima TNI) Admiral Yudo Margono instituted another round of job rotation. The rotation affects 36 high-ranking military officers, including the Navy Vice Chief of Staff (Wakasal) and the Commander of the Joint Defense Command (Pangkogabwilhan). We’re also anticipating a possible major rotation in the Army that may happen within the next few weeks since Admiral Yudo will soon end his term and the campaign period of 2024 elections is about to start.

This job rotation is truly worth highlighting in relation to 2024 elections because it affects 55 high-ranking police officers, including provincial police chiefs and the commander of the National Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob). Cabinet Reshuffle isn’t Over Yet?

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo only made one change into his cabinet by appointing Amran Sulaiman as the new agriculture minister to replace the disgraced Syahrul Yasin Limpo. However, the reshuffle might not be over yet and there’s still a possibility that we might see the President apply more changes into his cabinet.

Amran was also agriculture minister back in Jokowi’s first term. Amran’s return to the cabinet is truly worth highlighting in relation to the 2024 presidential race.

Three-Horse Race: Polls

Three presidential pairings have registered themselves at the General Election Commission (KPU). All pollsters, except Alvara Research Center, showed that Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka led the race above the two other pairings, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD and Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar.

Rosan leads Prabowo-Gibran campaign team

Rosan Roeslani, vice minister of state-owned enterprises, has been appointed chairman of the campaign team for Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in next year’s election. Are we entering a year of living dangerously?

The Fall of Jokowi

It is now confirmed that Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, son of outgoing president Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, will be the third pair candidate to compete in next year’s presidential election. Prabowo-Gibran has also secured support from small party PSI, whose chairman Kaesang Pangarep is younger brother of Gibran.

Cabinet Reshuffle

Apart from taking the oath of the new Army Chief of Staff (KSAD), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will reportedly make changes into his cabinet today (Oct. 25). Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the eldest son of Jokowi’s predecessor Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the chairman of Democratic Party, will reportedly join the cabinet. This cabinet reshuffle is worth highlighting in relation to 2024 race.
