President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will return to Jakarta tomorrow (Oct. 21) from his state visit in China and Saudi Arabia. The President’s return is worth highlighting because there are pending issues from the President that will affect the landscape of the 2024 race. 

Today, Oct. 19, is the first day of registration for presidential and vice-presidential candidates for 2024 race. The two presidential pairings, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD and Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, plan to register themselves at the General Election Commission (KPU) today (Oct. 19). Prabowo Subianto, meanwhile, has yet to announce his running mate. We all wonder who will become Prabowo’s running mate: Erick Thohir, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, or someone else?

Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP, named Mahfud MD as the running mate for Ganjar Pranowo. The pairing will register themselves at the General Election Commission (KPU) today (Oct. 19), which is the first day of registration for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. Looks like that PDIP and its coalition partners are confident enough that they can enter the 2024 presidential election without support from outgoing president and PDIP cadre Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo.
