The Fall of Jokowi

It is now confirmed that Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, son of outgoing president Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, will be the third pair candidate to compete in next year’s presidential election. Prabowo-Gibran has also secured support from small party PSI, whose chairman Kaesang Pangarep is younger brother of Gibran.

Cabinet Reshuffle

Apart from taking the oath of the new Army Chief of Staff (KSAD), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will reportedly make changes into his cabinet today (Oct. 25). Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the eldest son of Jokowi’s predecessor Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the chairman of Democratic Party, will reportedly join the cabinet. This cabinet reshuffle is worth highlighting in relation to 2024 race.

The New Army Chief

Pretty much as we’ve predicted before, the change of the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) is about to happen earlier than the schedule. Today, on Oct. 25, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reportedly will take the oath of Lt. Gen. Agus Subiyanto for becoming the new Army Chief to replace General Dudung Abdurahman, who will enter his mandatory retirement next month. Some people believe he will be joining the cabinet. If it’s true, we can safely say that Agus will later become the new Military Commander (Panglima TNI) to replace Admiral Yudo Margono, who will also retire next month.

Erick & Sandiaga: What’s Left?

Erick Thohir failed to enter the 2024 presidential race because Prabowo Subianto and his supporting coalition chose Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, as running mate. Similar to Erick, Sandiaga Uno also failed to run in 2024 race because the ruling party PDIP chose Mahfud MD as Ganjar Pranowo’s running mate. So, what will Erick and Sandiaga do next? What future is waiting for both of them?

Attack on Jokowi

The tension is flaring ahead of 2024 elections. The so-called Tim Pembela Demokrasi Indonesia (TPDI) or the Indonesian Democracy Defense Team, a legal aid organization that strongly affiliated to the ruling party PDIP, reported President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPU) for allegation of collusion and nepotism. Former Minister Hamid Awaluddin, who is known as a close aide to former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, also launched criticism toward President Jokowi.

Negative sentiment on Prabowo-Gibran

Residents interviewed by Tempo media group gave negative comments on the pairing of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, son of President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo. A survey from Litbang Kompas, research division of the country’s largest newspaper Kompas, also found vast majority of respondents classify the pairing as part of dynasty politics.

Jokowi’s Relationship with Megawati

We are all wondering about the state of relationship between President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP, following the nomination of the President’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the running mate of Prabowo Subianto. Let’s talk a bit about the matter and some implications that may come.

Prabowo-Gibran: Pros and Cons

Prabowo Subianto and his supporting coalition have announced Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, as running mate. Prabowo and Gibran will register themselves at the General Election Commission (KPU) on Wednesday (Oct. 25), the last day of the registration.

Prabowo-Gibran

It is not final yet, but Golkar and the National Mandate Party (PAN) have sent out strong signals that Gibran Rakabuming, son of president Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, who is mayor of Solo, will become running mate of Prabowo Subianto in next year’s election.

Notes on The Latest Electability Survey

The latest survey from the Lembaga Survei Indonesia (LSI) found Prabowo Subianto to be leading the race no matter who the running mate will be. At the same time, the survey showed that Prabowo’s lead is not enough to seal a victory in one round, therefore he will likely face Ganjar Pranowo in the second round. Let’s talk a bit about these survey results.
