Anthoni Salim, controlling owner of Salim Group, is not in the Top 10 richest persons of Indonesia in the most recent edition of Forbes magazine. This is mainly because the magazine only relies on data about market capitalization of companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), which can be misleading.
Anies’ Association with Hardliners Continues
The so-called Persaudaraan Alumni or the Alumni Brotherhood PA 212 together with the GNPF Ulama invite Anies Baswedan and his running mate, Muhaimin Iskandar, to attend its declaration event that will be held in Bogor, West Java this weekend. Anies-Muhaimin is the only one among the three presidential pairs being invited to the event organized by these hardline muslim groups.
Anies-Muhaimin Campaign Team (2)
It looks like Anies Baswedan’s guys are more dominant than those close to Muhaimin Iskandar in the lineup of Anies-Muhaimin national campaign team for 2024 presidential race. We’ve talked about Muhammad Syaugi Alaydrus, a retired three-star Air Force general, and Yusuf Muhammad Martak, one of the key leaders of the hardline muslim groups, in the first instalment of the article. Let’s talk about the other Anies’ guys and a few of Muhaimin’s friends in Anies-Muhaimin campaign team.
Kalla’s Warning
Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, who is former chairman of Golkar Party, reminds President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo about the downfall of Soekarno and Soeharto because of economic and political crises. Kalla, who is a big supporter of presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, stated that the President might suffer the same downfall because of similar crises.
The Election Tension
We’re only two weeks away before the campaign period of the 2024 simultaneous presidential and legislative election begins on Nov. 28. Aggressive and mass installation of billboard of small party Partai Solidaritas Indonesia (PSI), chaired by Kaesang Pangarep—youngest son of President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo—-in the past few weeks sparked speculation about financiers of the party. Kaesang and PSI leaders have also been seen on nationwide pre-campaign tour, which needs a lot of cash.
No Kaesang Effect Yet
Four pollsters recently released the results of their respective electability survey, in which all of them found that the ruling party PDIP was still leading the poll. On a different note, the electability of PSI, a small political party led by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s youngest son Kaesang Pangarep, remained insignificant.
Military Job Rotation to Watch
Apart from the appointment of Lt. Gen. I Nyoman Cantiasa as the new deputy chief of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), there are some changes that also worth highlighting from the latest job rotation instituted by the Military Commander (Panglima TNI) Admiral Yudo Margono. One of them is the new Army Deputy Chief of Staff (Wakasad), Lt. Gen. Arif Rahman. The others are the promotion of Rear Admiral (Laksda) Hersan and Brig. Gen. Rudy Saladin, two former adjutants of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
