The Anti-Money Laundering Agency (PPATK) revealed the flow of money from illegal mining activities to the 2024 election campaigns. PPATK has submitted its analysis of suspicious transactions to the General Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and the General Election Commission (KPU).

The fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the matriarch of the ruling party PDIP, met with Pope Francis on Monday (Dec. 18) at the Vatican, Italy. The Pope wishes that the harmony in Indonesia can be maintained.

Erick Thohir, the minister of state-owned enterprises (SOEs), has been appointed as the new head of the Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) Institute for Research and Human Resources Development (Lakpesdam) for 2022-2027 period. With this appointment, Erick is now officially a part of the management structure of NU’s Central Board (PBNU). NU is the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia.

A volunteer group named Nderek Guru (Ndaru) has declared their endorsement for Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, on Sunday (Dec. 17). This endorsement is worth highlighting because the volunteer group consists of high-profile figures, including Siti Ma’rifah, the eldest daughter of Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

Anies & the Hardliners

Yusuf Muhammad Martak, the deputy chairman of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar’s campaign team and the chairman of the GNPF Ulama, told the press on Thursday (Dec. 14) that Anies-Muhaimin has signed an integrity pact with the so-called Ijtima Ulama, a group of ulemas known close to Rizieq Shihab, the supreme leader of the disbanded hardline Muslim group FPI. Rizieq himself is fully supporting the Ijtima Ulama to help Anies-Muhaimin win the 2024 race.

Kalla’s Latest Move

Former Vice President (VP) Jusuf Kalla, who is a big supporter of Anies Baswedan, is currently busy with his two organizations, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI). On Dec. 8, Kalla has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a cooperation between the PMI and the Ministry of Environment & Forestry (KLHK) led by Siti Nurbaya Bakar, a politician from Surya Paloh’s Nasdem Party, one of the political parties endorsing Anies in 2024 race.

Ganjar-Mahfud’s Crowdfunding: No Update?

Two weeks have passed since the national campaign team (TPN) of Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD officially launched its crowdfunding digital platform to raise more funds for their election campaign. Unfortunately, there is no update from the TPN. They have yet to disclose the identity of the donors and the amount of donation that they collected from the public so far.

New Provincial Police Chiefs

The Chief of the National Police (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo recently instituted a major job rotation that affected 535 high-ranking and middle-ranking police officers. This rotation is quite worth highlighting in light of the 2024 elections because among those affected are provincial police chiefs (Kapolda) and vice chiefs (Wakapolda).
