After the meeting, President-elect Prabowo Subianto who attended in his capacity as the Minister of Defense stated that health and education sectors will become the focus of his administration following the direction from President Jokowi. Therefore, it is interesting to see who will be appointed as the next Minister of Health and the next Minister of Education in Prabowo-Gibran’s cabinet.

It looks like Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Tourism & Creative Economy, is aware that entering and winning the regional election this year is important for his future in Indonesian politics. Sandi, who is a politician from PPP, an Islamic party affiliated to the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), is now reportedly in talks with PKB, another Islamic party strongly affiliated to the NU, for the 2024 West Java gubernatorial election.

Gerindra, a political party led by President-elect Prabowo Subianto, and PSI, a small party led by Kaesang Pangarep, the youngest son of the outgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, are preparing to form a coalition for challenging PDIP in this year’s city election of Surakarta (Central Java). As we all know, PDIP is the largest party in Surakarta, which is the home to Jokowi and his big family.

PDIP-PKB Axis?

A potential coalition between PDIP and PKB in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections is truly worth monitoring. After a deadlock in East Java, it seems like both parties continue to talk intensively about the regional elections in the other major provinces, including Jakarta.

Prabowo’s Health Status

President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who is also the chairman of Gerindra Party and the Minister of Defense, has on Sunday (Jun. 30) posted some pictures on his personal Instagram account, in which he shared his health situation after he underwent a major surgery on his left leg. Prabowo said that the surgery went well and he is fine and ready to return to his activities.
