Regional Election Update: West Java

A new survey result on the West Java 2018 gubernatorial race has just been released by Ilma Research and Consulting, a local polling agency in West Java. Surprisingly, according to the said polling agency, the electability of PDIP governor candidate TB Hasanuddin growing significantly though the pair is still in a distant third behind Ridwan Kamil and the incumbent Deddy Mizwar.

Jokowi’s 2019: West Java

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the new Kertajati International Airport (BJIB) in Majalengka, West Java on Thursday (May 24). The Airport is finally ready for service after fifteen years of delay. This success might boost Jokowi electability in West Java.

Corruption Journal

On May 23, 2018, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted another Sting Operation in Southeast Sulawesi during which they arrested the Regent of South Buton, who’s only been in office for a year. The KPK also examined several Golkar politicians to continue their investigation into the bribery involving the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla). Separately, the Attorney General’s Office named a new suspect in a corruption case involving PT Sang Hyang Seri (Persero).

Jokowi’s Response

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has responded to the news that Prabowo Subianto and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) had been scheduled to meet in the near future. When asked by journalist what if Prabowo and SBY were to form an alliance, the President said that that would be a good thing.

Another polling agency reaffirms the domination of incumbent Governor Ganjar Pranowo, who is also a PDIP politician, in the Central Java’s 2018 gubernatorial election. Ganjar, according to Indikator Politik Indonesia’s latest survey result, leads the poll with 72.4% electability, far ahead from his contender Sudirman Said with 21%.

The 2019 Race: Prabowo’s & SBY’s Latest Move

The head of Prabowo Subianto’s campaign team Sandiaga Uno, who is also the vice governor of Jakarta and the deputy chairman of Gerindra Party’s Advisory Council, recently met with the Democratic Party politician Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). Both sides didn’t deny the suggestion that both had met to explore the possibility of entering into an alliance for the 2019 presidential race.
