After the long Eid holidays, the courts have returned to its normal working schedule. To start the week, on June 25, 2018, the Central Jakarta District Court continued the trial of the former Regent of Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar) Rita Widyasari and the trial of the Reconsideration petition submitted by former Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali.

The 2019 Race: Prabowo’s Moves

The Chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto has been preparing himself ahead of the registration of the 2019 presidential/vice presidential candidates. Recently, Prabowo met with the Chairman of PAN Zulkifli Hasan. Prabowo and his team has also set in motion a public fundraising campaign.

Jokowi’s 2019: Java & Outside of Java

The Saiful Mujani Research Consulting (SMRC) has found President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo leading the poll far ahead of his strongest potential rival Prabowo Subianto in the three populous provinces in Java. Another polling agency Indobarometer also found a similar result in Java. Indobarometer also found Jokowi leading the polls over Prabowo in North Sumatera and South Sulawesi, the two most populous provinces outside Java.

Regional Elections Update: Latest Polls

Three polling agencies—Indobarometer, the Saiful Mujani Research Consulting (SMRC), and Poltracking Indonesia—have just released the result of their respective survey on gubernatorial elections in some major provinces in Java and outside of Java. They found similar results.

Jokowi’s 2019 & North Sumatera Election

Indobarometer has just released the result of their survey on the North Sumatera 2018 gubernatorial election. According to Indobarometer, PDIP’s governor candidate Djarot Saiful Hidayat and his running mate Sihar Sitorus leads the poll, albeit by a razor-thin margin over Edy Rahmayadi-Musa “Ijeck” Rajekshah.  Indobarometer also found the majority of their respondents in North Sumatera wanted President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s reelection.

More Reconsideration Petitions

Over a month has gone by since Justice Artidjo Alkostar officially retired. We previously reported on the petitions for Reconsideration (PK) that famous graft convicts filed as soon as Artidjo retired. The latest update is that the Central Jakarta District Court have received a total of twelve PK petitions. Six of which were filed by graft convicts. Who are they?

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the son of the Chairman of the Democratic Party Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), has been continuously criticizing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. Agus also confirmed the news that the Democratic Party was considering the option of pairing him with Vice President Jusuf Kalla. 

2019 Race, West Java Election & Pressure on Aher-PKS

The Beyond Anti Corruption (BAC) group and the Perkumpulan Inisiatif—anti-corruption civil society groups—reported Ahmad “Aher” Heryawan, a PKS politician who has just ended his term as West Java governor, to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on allegation of graft.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo opened the Bogor Presidential Palace to the public on the Eid Al Fitr holidays. Plenty of high-profile figures also came to the open house event, among them was businessman Chairul Tanjung (CT), the owner of CT Corp. CT is an interesting figure that seems to have been ignored in recent days.

Avanti Communications v. Government of Indonesia

Several days ago Avanti Communications Limited, subsidiary of UK-based Avanti Communications Group Plc (LSE: AVN), announced on its official website that the Company had won the arbitration against Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence. The dispute they brought to court is related to the lease of the Company’s ARTEMIS satellite and the court ordered the Ministry to pay over US$20 million.
