We have noted some interesting names of lawmaker candidates in 17 electoral regions (Dapil) in Jakarta, West Java, and East Java. Now let’s look at the eastern part of the country. Let’s start with some interesting names in Papua, the home of U.S. giant mining company Freeport.

Jokowi & the New Minister of Social

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo made Golkar Party politician Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita the new Minister of Social Affairs to replace Idrus Marham, the Golkar politician who’s been named a suspect in the PLTU Riau I corruption case by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday (Aug. 24).

Sandiaga & Bawaslu’s Investigation

The Deputy Secretary General of Democratic Party Andi Arief said that he will answer the call from the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) for a questioning today (Aug. 24). The questioning is related to Andi’s accusation that Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno gave Rp500 billion each to PAN and PKS as dowry/tribute for letting him become Prabowo Subianto’s running mate.

Hanura’s Internal Conflict Continues

The battle for the chairmanship of the Hanura Party is far from over. The Hanura Party under the leadership of Vice Air Marshal (ret) Daryatmo and Sarifuddin Sudding has on Monday (Aug 20) publicly sent a sub-poena to Minister of Law & Human Rights, the General Election Commission (KPU), and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) for not obeying the verdict from the State Administrative Court (PTUN) of Jakarta No. 24/G/2018/PTUN.JKT, which cancelled the restructuring, repositioning, and revitalizing of Hanura Party’s Central Executive Body (DPP) under the other leadership of Oesman Sapta Odang.

We have noted some interesting names of lawmaker candidates in eight electoral regions (Dapil) in West Java, the most populous province in the country. Let’s continue with three remaining electoral regions in West Java and three other electoral regions in East Java, the second most populous province in the country.

Jokowi-Mar’uf Campaign Team: Interesting Names (2)

Akbar Tanjung, senior politician from Golkar Party, is listed in the Steering Board of Jokowi-Mar’uf Amin Campaign Team alongside Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Agung Laksono, the other senior Golkar leader, is also member of the board, but Aburizal Bakrie, former chairman of Golkar, is not listed anywhere in the team.

Observations and Commentaries: The Compromise

Words are the trade in politics. But words are a notoriously risky commodity. Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Mahfud MD knows that all too well. He was supposedly given the impression that Jokowi had chosen him as running mate. Poor Mahfud, after telling journalists that he had been chosen, it turned out that he had not. Jokowi had chosen Ma’ruf Amin instead. It looked like a last minute compromise, but is it the right compromise to make?
