The Police recently detained three women who spread smear campaign against President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in Karawang, More details on them have since been shared. The Police confirmed crystal-clear connection to Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno (Prabowo-Sandi). The said women are members from the so-called Partai Emak-Emak Pendukung Prabowo-Sandi (PEPES), a volunteer group comprised of housewives who support Prabowo-Sandi. The Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party Fadli Zon, who is also a member of the Prabowo-Sandi national campaign team (BPN)’s supervisory body, admitted that he’s the adviser of the said volunteer group. Will this case bring sanction and punishment to the pair this time?

The Campaign Trails

Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno (Prabowo-Sandi) continue to target the regions dominated by the supporters of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and his running mate KH Ma’ruf Amin (Jokowi-Amin). Prabowo went to Madura Island before campaigning in Yogyakarta today (Feb. 28) while Sandi campaigned in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Jokowi, meanwhile, went to Cilacap, Central Java, whereas Ma’ruf Amin continues campaigning in West Java.

2019 Race, Islam Narratives & Smear Campaigns

The supporters of Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno (Prabowo-Sandi) might be trying to revive Islamic political play. Recently, the supporters of Prabowo-Sandi organized the so-called Munajat 212 (night mass prayer) in the Monas area, Central Jakarta. A smear campaign containing Islamic narratives against incumbent President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has also gone viral on social media platforms.

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) will soon hold an extraordinary congress (KLB) to elect its new chairman. The congress was expected to be held after the April 2019 simultaneous presidential and legislative elections, but there’s a possibility that the congress will be held earlier following the Police’s decision to name the acting Chairman of PSSI Joko Driyono a suspect in match fixing allegation.

It was a busy weekend for both presidential pairs. Prabowo Subianto visited East Java and North Sumatera, while his running mate Sandiaga Uno visited Bali. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and his running mate KH Ma’ruf Amin, meanwhile, remained in the capital city Jakarta. They received support from a number of volunteer groups before attending the so-called People’s Convention in Bogor (West Java).

Hardline Muslim groups in the so-called Presidium of 212 Alumni organized the night mass prayer (Munajat) in the Monas area, Central Jakarta on Thursday (Feb. 21). It’s no secret that members of the Presidium are supporters of Prabowo Subianto. It’s interesting that the event came up in the midst of negative exposure on Prabowo, whose ownership of land concessions has become a topic of day-to-day discussions in the press and in informal circles.

Jokowi & South Sumatera Battleground

The polling agency LSI Denny JA has released the result of their survey on the electability of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and his running mate KH Ma’ruf Amin (Jokowi-Amin), as well as the electability of Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno (Prabowo-Sandi) in several regions of Indonesia, one of which is South Sumatera. Jokowi lost South Sumatera to Prabowo back in 2014. Unfortunately for the incumbent pair, LSI has found their electability at 3.6% behind their contender.

The Latest Electability Figures of Political Parties

The polling agency LSI Denny JA released the result of their latest electability survey on political parties. They found the ruling party PDIP leading the 2019 legislative race by a significant margin. They also found Prabowo Subianto’s Gerindra Party surpassing Golkar to claim the runner-up position.

Jokowi & Riau

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took the oath of Syamsuar and Brig. Gen. (ret) Edy Afrizal Natar Nasution as the new governor and vice governor of Riau for the 2019-2024 period. Both Syamsuar and Edy again expressed their endorsement of Jokow though the pair was supported in the gubernatorial race by, among others, PKS and PAN, members of Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno coalition.
