President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo made the strategic decision to push forward with the plan to move the capital from Jakarta to outside of Java. The location of the new capital, however, has yet to be decided. Implications?

Police & Military Job Rotation

The Chief of the National Police (POLRI) General Tito Karnavian has instituted a round of job rotation. A number of police generals were affected, including the head of the National Police’s Intelligence & Security Body (Intelkam) and several regional police chiefs. Prior to that, the Indonesian Military (TNI) also instituted their round of job rotation.

2019 Aftermath: Jokowi’s Move

On Friday (April 24), Jokowi held a meeting with the leaders of the workers unions the State Palace Jakarta, including those known as his biggest critics. Accompanying Jokowi in the meeting were Minister of Manpower Hanif Dakhiri and the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Moeldoko—this indicates Jokowi’s continued trust in the former military commander.

Rini’s Future

Economist Faisal Basri, who endorsed Jokowi the last minutes into April 2019 elections, suggested the dismissal of Rini Soemarno as minister of state-owned enterprises. Faisal blamed Rini for State losses incurred from the acquisition of troubled sugar mill PT Gendhis Multi Manis by state food logistic company BULOG. This is not the first time Faisal demanded Rini’s dismissal. But, even PDI-P, the main backer of President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, failed to unseat the former CEO of Astra Internasional.

Election Results & Ma’ruf Amin’s Role

A big question after the 2019 presidential race concerns the future role of K.H. Ma’ruf Amin in the next cabinet. Though he will serve as the new Vice President to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, some doubt that Ma’ruf would play a significant role following his failure to help Jokowi earn more votes in Banten, and the major losses in West Java and South Kalimantan.

As predicted, the Golkar Party led the movement to amend the Election Law in order to separate the presidential election from the legislative elections following the death of election organizers and security officers due to fatigue. Apart from the death toll, we all know that Golkar has suffered a decline in votes because of the simultaneous presidential and legislative elections arrangement.

A Lonely Bobby The Cat

Bobby is the infamous cat of Prabowo Subianto. Rizky Irmansyah, private secretary of Prabowo, said Bobby has a very unique character. If Prabowo leaves Kertanegara (private residence) without  saying something, Bobby would ignore the lieutenant general next time around, and, worse, he would launch a hunger strike. Bobby is ‘King of Kertanegara’, while Prabowo is only a ‘President of Kertanegara’.

Prabowo Subianto held another celebration of victory together with his supporters at the Padepokan Pencak Silat Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta yesterday (April 24). But this time, the celebration was closed from the press. Sandi, again, was not present in the said event.
