The General Election Commission (KPU) official tally is still progressing, but so far it still suggests President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s would get re-elected. As Monday, May 6 at 4:45 a.m., Jokowi still leads with more than 13 million votes over Prabowo Subianto. The KPU is close to completing their tally of votes in four provinces—Jokowi wins them all.

President candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Sandiaga Uno visited Banda Aceh, the capital city of Aceh province last Friday. detik.com reported that some flower boards to welcome the ‘elected president and vice president’ were placed in front of the Aceh campaign office for Prabowo-Sandiaga.

By now it’s clear that Prabowo Subianto’s camp is trying to keep Islamic political circle at play even after the 2019 race. Recently, as we’ve reported before, a number of hardline clerics supporting Prabowo in the race held a so-called Ijtima Ulama 3 gathering. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met with Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the son of the Democratic Party Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), at the State Palace Jakarta yesterday (May 2). AHY told the press that President Jokowi had invited him to the State Palace.

Rumors have started to spread on the names that might be in President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s second-term cabinet. Rumor has it that Jokowi would make a round of cabinet reshuffle following the recent development concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)’s investigation.

Prabowo Subianto gave a speech in a May Day celebration organized by the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Union (KSPI), a workers union that endorsed him in the 2019 presidential race. Earlier, Prabowo also sent a video message that he and his supporters would fight until the end never. A number of clerics backing Prabowo have also asked for a disqualification of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo from the 2019 race.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo made the strategic decision to push forward with the plan to move the capital from Jakarta to outside of Java. The location of the new capital, however, has yet to be decided. Implications?

Police & Military Job Rotation

The Chief of the National Police (POLRI) General Tito Karnavian has instituted a round of job rotation. On Friday (April 24), Jokowi held a meeting with the leaders of the workers unions the State Palace Jakarta, including those known as his biggest critics. Accompanying Jokowi in the meeting were Minister of Manpower Hanif Dakhiri and the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Moeldoko—this indicates Jokowi’s continued trust in the former military commander.
