Jokowi’s Reelection & the Golkar Party

The General Election Commission (KPU) completed their tally of the votes of all 34 provinces last night. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is the winner of his reelection after securing 85.6 million votes (55.5%), nearly 17 million votes more than Prabowo Subianto who collected 68.6 million votes (44.5%). The KPU’s final tally also shows PDIP as the winner of the legislative election with Gerindra and Golkar joining the Party in the Big Three. Interestingly, Jokowi was present in an iftar gathering held by the Golkar Party last night, the second largest political party in his ruling coalition.

Finale: Jokowi 55.5%, Prabowo 44.5%

The General Election Commission (KPU) has validated calculation of votes for presidential election in Maluku province and Kuala Lumpur few minutes ago. They make up the last pieces of the tabulation. Jokowi wins the election with 85.62 million votes or 55.5% of the total valid votes, while Prabowo gets 68.64 million votes or 44.5%.

The Next Cabinet

In addition to asking for the position of speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) for 2019-2024 period, the Chairman of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar also hopes that his party would get 10 portfolios in the next cabinet. But 10 is too many.

Anomalies

The General Election Commission (KPU) is on schedule to announce winner of April 2019 elections next week. Calculation of votes has been completed for 32 provinces, leaving only North Sumatra and Maluku plus Kuala Lumpur (overseas). President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, by far, wins 84.8 million votes, a comfortable margin of 17 million votes over Prabowo. The incumbent wins 21 out of 34 provinces plus overseas election areas.

Titiek, daughter of the late authoritarian president Soeharto, appealed to supporters to continue fighting against reelection of Jokowi.

Election Aftermath: Jokowi & Security Stability
