The Next Cabinet: Nasdem

The Nasdem Party’s prestige has gone up now that it is the fourth largest political party in the House of Representatives (DPR). Their excellent performance in the 2019 elections definitely increased their bargaining position for power sharing the cabinet. But the problem is that Paloh made wild maneuvers that could hurt his relationship with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the Chairwoman of PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri. It could erode Jokowi’s trust on Paloh and, accordingly, affect Jokowi’s decision on cabinet seats for Nasdem.

A Sign from Gerindra

After two months of silence, the outspoken politician from Gerindra Party Fadli Zon has recently returned to criticizing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. Starting from the blackout incident early this month, forest fires, the new capital city, until the Papua issue. What does this sudden development mean?

The Next Cabinet: All the President’s Men (1)

The Ministry of Forestry and Environment is one of the most strategic portfolios in the cabinet. The Ministry is always controlled by those from a political party—Golkar Party, PKS, PDIP, PBB, PAN, and now Nasdem. But President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo might want to change that by putting a professional and competent figure (but trusted and close to him) to lead the said Ministry. Who would that person be?

The Next Cabinet: PDIP

The Chairwoman of PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri talked about the next cabinet in the sideline of her visit to Seoul, South Korea yesterday. She told the press that with regards to PDIP’s portion in the cabinet, Jokowi is the one with prerogative as the President of the Republic. Previously, Megawati told the crowd in the PDIP congress that the Party must get a lot of seats in the cabinet. Jokowi gave his word that PDIP would get the most.

The Race to Control Golkar (4)

Tension remains high ahead of the upcoming chairmanship congress (Munas) of the Golkar Party, the second-largest political party in the country. Recently, two of the Party’s officials, as per the order of the Chairman of Golkar Airlangga Hartarto, were reported to the Police for falsifying documents.

The New Capital: Political Landscape

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced an area in the neighbouring regencies of Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara in the resource-rich province of East Kalimantan as the future capital city of Indonesia. Let’s talk about the political landscape in the province and, specifically, in the said regencies.

Understanding PKB’s New Lineup

Muhaimin Iskandar a.k.a Cak Imin has been reelected as the chairman of PKB for five more years. He announced the new lineup of his party’s central executive board (DPP) for the 2019-2024 period, and unsurprisingly, got rid of his critics and opposers such as Abdul Kadir Karding and Lukman Edy. To replace them Imin appointed younger figures such as Muhammad Hasanuddin Wahid as the new secretary general. The son of the elected Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin is also in the new lineup, which many see as evidence of Imin’s strong alliance with Ma’ruf.

Moving to East Kalimantan

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has on Monday (Aug 26) announced an area in the neighbouring regencies of Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara in East Kalimantan as future capital city of Indonesia to replace Jakarta. This ends months of speculations about the location of the new capital city. As to whether this will become a reality, time will tell. But, why not?
