The New Cabinet Design
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had mentioned the addition of new ministries and the merger of a few ministries in his next cabinet. Two of them that might be affected are reportedly the Cabinet Secretary (Setkab) and the President Staff Office (KSP). The idea is to merge the President Staff Office into the Cabinet Secretary.
The New KPK Leaders
As predicted, The House of Representatives (DPR) chose the Chief of the South Sumatera Police Insp. Gen. Firli Bahuri, who is also a former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) director for enforcement, as one of the new five 2019-2023 KPK leaders. The Commission III, moreover, made Firli the new chairman of the KPK.
Making the New KPK
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has sent a Presidential letter (Surpres) to the House of Representatives (DPR) noting his approval of the DPR’s plan to discuss the revision of the Law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). In the meantime, the KPK sent a letter to the DPR Commission III to inform the Commission that Police Insp. Gen. Firli Bahuri, one of 10 KPK leader candidates, had committed serious ethical violations when he served in the KPK.
A Political Game: Compromise & Consensus
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has sent a Presidential letter on the revision on the Legislative Body Law (or known as MD3 Law), with which the revision of the MD3 Law can move forward. The revised MD3 Law shall accommodate the request for 10 seats in the leadership of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). What could Jokowi gain in exchange for his approval of the said revision?
Kalla-Lino & the Revision on KPK Law
Unlike President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla has publicly expressed his support of the House of Representatives (DPR)’s decision to revise the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law. Interestingly, Kalla mentioned the graft case that dragged down the former CEO of state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Pelindo II) Richard Joost Lino as an example why the revision is necessary.

Jokowi, Habibie, and the New Cabinet
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has on Monday (Sep. 9) visited the third President B.J. Habibie, who is currently under intensive care in the Army Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Subroto. Jokowi ordered 44 presidential doctors to take care of Habibie. Both figures, as we all know, have a very special relationship. There was even a rumor that Habibie’s son and or those close to him might be appointed minister in Jokowi’s new cabinet.
