The Golkar Party, the second largest political party in the country, has officially nominated Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) to become speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). Golkar previously nominated Aziz Syamsuddin as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), and Aziz was sworn in last night (Oct. 1). Is this a deal in exchange for lending Airlangga their support in Golkar’s upcoming chairmanship congress (Munas)?

They said they’re aware of what the dynamics in Golkar could do to the political situation in the country. Some, however, wonder whether there’s a deal, especially about power sharing, behind their decision to reconcile.

The opposition party PKS has joined the chorus askingPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to issue a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) to cancel and replace the newly revised Law of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The Party also stated that they’d provide legal aid for those challenging the revised KPK Law to the Constitutional Court (MK). PKS’ ally Gerindra, the biggest opposition party led by Prabowo Subianto, also made a similar statement.
