(ret) Prabowo Subianto, who is also the chairman of Gerindra Party, is visiting foreign countries, looking to purchase military equipment to modernize the country’s primary weapons system (Alutsista). He has visited eight countries, and it’s clear that he’s not stopping anytime soon. The countries he has visited in the past three months:

The rumor of a friction between the Chairman of PAN Zulkifli Hasan and the former PAN Chairman Amien Rais is spreading ahead of PAN’s chairmanship congress (scheduled to be held next month). Amien, PAN founder and father-in-law of Zulkifli’s daughter, reportedly endorses another chairman candidate to challenge Zulkifli in the said congress.

Airlangga’s Golkar & the Brokenhearted

As predicted, the supporters of Bambang Soesatyo a.k.a Bamsoet are disappointed. They feel that the Chairman of Golkar Party Airlangga Hartarto has not accommodated them enough in the new lineup of the Party’s central executive board (DPP). They also criticized Airlangga for favoring his family members and his supporters instead. This brokenhearted group could create a new tension in the Party.

Golkar’s New Lineup

The Golkar Party, the second largest political party, has on Wednesday (Jan. 15) announced the new lineup of the Party’s central executive board (DPP) for the 2019-2024 period. The former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, who is also former chairman of Golkar, has been excluded from the lineup. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, on the other hand, is still the head of the Party’s supervisory board.

Parliamentary Threshold: The Debates

PDIP’s plan to increase the parliamentary threshold has triggered debates among political parties even though the deliberation of the amendment of the Election Law No. 7/2017 has not yet begun. Election watchdogs oppose the ruling party’s plan for they believe that increasing the threshold is not an effective way of reducing the number of political parties.
