Zulkifli Hasan Wins Reelection
The Chairman of PAN Zulkifli Hasan has been reelected via the Party’s chairmanship congress. The fact that he was note endorsed by PAN founder Amien Rais and the fact that he’s facing Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) investigation. Zulkifli did not seem to erode his appeal. So Zulkifli, who is also a deputy speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), will remain at the leadership table of PAN until 2025.
Jokowi’s Son & PDIP
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka underwent a fit and proper test at the headquarters of the ruling party PDIP. The test is one of the means for PDIP to decide on who to endorse in the 2020 Surakarta City election. After taking the test, Gibran told the press that he will remain loyal to PDIP, even if the Party decides to give its ticket to another candidate.

The Gerindra Party, a political party led by Minister of Defense Lt. Gen. (ret) Prabowo Subianto, celebrated its 12th anniversary on Thursday (Feb. 6). Today they’re a part of the President’s ruling coalition after Prabowo and his closest aide Edhy Prabowo joined the cabinet. The Party is seeking the position of vice governor in the capital city Jakarta.

The Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) General (ret) Moeldoko, who is also a former military (TNI) commander, appointed 13 senior advisers to assist him at the KSP. Among them are Kuntoro Mangkusubroto and Purnomo Yusgiantoro, two former ministers of energy.
SBY’s Endorsement of Gibran: Speculations?
Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), who is also the chairman of the Democratic Party, reportedly endorsed President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Surakarta’s 2020 mayoral race. One wonders why SBY made such a political move?
Pressure on Zulkifli Hasan
The Chairman of PAN Zulkifli Hasan, who is also the deputy speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), is summoned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for questioning today (Feb. 6). Zulkifli will be questioned in relation to a graft case concerning the forest conversion area in Riau province. Zulkifli was Minister of Forestry for the period of 2009-2014. The KPK had already questioned him before in June 2014. The KPK’s timing to revisit the case makes some wonder whether their investigation would affect Zulkifli’s chances in PAN’s chairmanship congress next week.

The search for alternative figures to challenge the Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan in the city’s 2022 gubernatorial election continues. In previous articles, we mentioned several candidates, such as the popular Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini, the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, the former Jakarta Vice Governor Sandiaga Uno, former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY) eldest son Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), and the Mayor of Semarang Hendrar Prihadi. But some have come up with the surprising idea of recommending Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir and the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
