The Head of the COVID-19 Mitigation Task Force Lt. Gen. Doni Monardo gave the assurance that the Government’s data on the deaths related to Coronavirus were accurate. Doni, who is also the chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), made the statement to respond to the claim of the Chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Daeng M. Faqih, who said that the number of deaths related to Coronavirus had reached more than 1,000, or twice than the official number released by the Government.

High-profile figures of the Muhammadiyah and the National Mandate Party (PAN) such as Din Syamsuddin and Amien Rais submitted a judicial review request at the Constitutional Court (MK). They are challenging President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 1/2020. Interestingly, in the said lawsuit, they voice the same concern voiced by the former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), who is also the supreme leader of the Democratic Party.

The Democratic Party has been actively criticizing the Government, especially in rejecting the Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 1/2020 that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo signed to provide a special stimulus for mitigating the Coronavirus pandemic. Democratic Party executives followed their supreme leader Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) in criticizing the said Perppu.
Jokowi Phone Call with Putin
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday (April 13). Both men discussed intensifying cooperation in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Russian Embassy in Jakarta confirmed the phone call citing a previous statement issued by the Kremlin. Did they also discuss Indonesia’s plan to purchase Sukhoi fighter jets?

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took the oath of Ahmad Riza Patria, a politician from Prabowo Subianto’s Gerindra Party, as the new vice governor of Jakarta. The President also sworn in Benny Ramdhani, a politician from Oesman Sapta Odang’s (OSO) Hanura Party, as the new head the State Agency for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BP2MI), and I Dewa Kade Wiarsa Raka Sandi as a new commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU) to replace Wahyu Setiawan. In the meantime, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) appoints its new deputy for enforcement, while the Commander of the Indonesia Military (TNI) Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto made another round of job rotation affecting 329 high-ranking officers, including the son of former Vice President General (ret) Try Sutrisno.
Democrat’s New Lineup
The new Chairman of Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), who is also the eldest son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), announced the party’s 2020-2025 lineup. There are many changes, but still, we can see his relatives, including his younger brother Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono a.k.a Ibas, in strategic positions. It’s also interesting to see Siti Nur Azizah, the daughter of Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, and Soekarwo’s son-in-law Renville Antonio in the lineup. A controversial figure like Andi Arief is accommodated in the lineup as well.

The Muhammadiyah has been actively criticizing the Government’s COVID-19 mitigation approach. Muhammadiyah, of which the National Mandate Party (PAN) strongly affiliated to, is the second largest Muslim organization in the country.
