The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) was investigating the death of the paramilitary members of the disbanded hardline muslim group FPI who had a clash with the Police. The Komnas HAM recently concluded the killing as a violation of human rights. The Komnas HAM recommended the settlement of the matter in Court.

Today (Jan. 11), the House of Representatives (DPR) will hold its first plenary session after returning from recess. We’re anticipating the DPR to read the letter from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on the name of the police chief (Kapolri) nominee.
Minister Risma and Her Critics
The new Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini has not enjoyed a warm welcome. As soon as she began to work, she worked her way around Jakarta. Upcoming Key Appointment: Acting Jakarta Governor
The Central Government will appoint an acting governor to lead the capital city Jakarta once Anies Baswedan ends his term on Oct. 16, 2022 as per Regional Election Law (UU Pilkada) No. 10/2016. The said acting governor will serve for two years until a new Jakarta governor is elected in a gubernatorial election that, by law, is scheduled to be held in November 2024. The question is who will have the chance to lead Jakarta as an acting governor for the period of 2022-2024?

Some say that the President has decided on who shall replace General Idham Azis, who will soon enter his mandatory retirement. Others believe that it’s still an open race.
The Latest Electability Survey
The latest electability survey conducted by the polling agency Vox Populi Research Center has found Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo neck-to-neck at the top of the poll. Prabowo, who is now the Minister of Defense, is the chairman of the Gerindra Party. Ganjar, a Governor of Central Java, is a politician from the ruling party PDIP. Both PDIP and Gerindra are key members of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s ruling coalition. Vox Populi conducted its electability survey from Dec. 26 to Dec. 31, 2020 by phone. Around 1,200 respondents across the country were involved.
PPP’s New Lineup
Today (Jan. 6), the United Development Party is expected to announce the Party’s new lineup for its 2020-2025 leadership under Suharso Monoarfa, who is now the Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas). PPP, a member of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s ruling coalition, is the smallest political party in the House of Representatives (DPR).
Andika Perkasa’s Chance Fading Away?
Military Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto wasn’t among the six new ministers and the five new vice ministers that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced on Dec. 22, 2020. The President decided to maintain Commander Hadi at the helm of the Indonesian Military (TNI). And so, some believe that the Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Andika Perkasa is losing the opportunity to become the next Military Commander.
