Prabowo’s Military Procurement & Jokowi’s Legacy

The Minister of Defense Lt. Gen. (ret) Prabowo Subianto is on an overseas trip. He’s in Japan after visiting the United Kingdom (UK) and Russia. Prabowo’s trip to the UK and Russia is worth highlighting, following news that the Indonesian Government was set to purchase the Dassault Rafale from France and F-15EX from the United States (US). The Government might thus cancel its deal to purchase Sukhoi Su-35 from Russia. It might also cancel the plan to acquire the used Eurofighter Typhoon from the Austrian Air Force.

The Latest Electability Survey: New Contenders?

The polling agency Charta Politika released the results of its electability survey on Sunday (March 28). It found the Minister of Defense Lt. Gen. (ret) Prabowo Subianto, who is also the chairman of Gerindra Party, leading the poll. Charta also mentioned new contenders, including Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). The problem is that the electability of these new contenders is still insignificant compared to Prabowo.

Revisiting Hambalang

The Democratic Party led by General (ret) Moeldoko, the chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) and former Military (TNI) commander, held a press conference at the location of the Hambalang Sport Complex. Prabowo, Military Procurement & the 2024 Race

The Chairman of Gerindra Party Lt. Gen. (ret) Prabowo Subianto is still leading the polls. With his current position as the minister of defense under President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration, Prabowo has the opportunity to boost his electability ahead of the 2024 race. To do that, he must succeed in strengthening and modernizing the country’s primary weapons system (Alutsista). That said, a new contender could still emerge and defeat him.

The New Capital Omnibus Bill: Another Political Battle

The House of Representatives (DPR) announced 33 bills in the 2021 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas). One of the said bills is the Omnibus Bill on the New Capital. The bill is aimed as a legal umbrella for moving the capital city of Indonesia from Jakarta to an area in the neighboring regencies of Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara in the resource-rich province of East Kalimantan. But given the strong rejection of the opposition group, the bill is set to become another political battle.

Megawati’s Support (2)

The fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri defended President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo once more. Megawati, who is also the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP, criticized those who accused Jokowi of seeking a third presidential term. She said that the critics might be the ones coveting the possibility. Megawati’s statement is an indirect affirmation that PDIP has no intention to amend the 1945 Constitution for extending the presidential service term.

Another Victory for Jokowi

After long debates and postponements, the House of Representatives (DPR) announced the 2021 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) in its plenary session held on Tuesday (March 23). The DPR decided to exclude the bill on the revision of the Election Law No. 7/2017,...
