Military Procurement Update: Sukhoi
The Russian news agency Tass reported that the Russian Government was still going to deliver the 4.5th generation multirole fighter jets Sukhoi Su-35 to Indonesia. The Indonesian Government has not responded to the statement. That said, it is likely that the Sukhoi deal will be at the heart of the upcoming bilateral meeting between President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and President Vladimir Putin.

Hundreds of student activists and online taxi drivers staged a rally in Bandung, West Java on Wednesday (July 21) protesting the Government’s decision to extend the PPKM restrictions. In a rally staged earlier in Ambon (Maluku) and Makassar (South Sulawesi), the student activists called for President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to resign.
Andika Perkasa’s Recent Visits
On Monday (July 19), Military Commander (Panglima TNI) Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto led the promotion ceremony for 44 military generals at the Military headquarters (Mabes TNI) in Cilangkap, East Jakarta. The Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Andika Perkasa did not attend the event. Andika was visiting Yogyakarta and Central Java.
Jokowi & Two Years of Wasted Opportunity
The administration of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo decided to extend the emergency activity restrictions (PPKM Darurat) until next Sunday (July 25) considering the COVID-19 situation in the country. The President hopes the positivity rate will decline in the next few days so the Government can gradually ease the restrictions starting July 26. The President also continues to push for accelerated vaccination to reach the target of herd immunity by the end of this year.

The LSI released the result of its latest survey. The polling agency found the level of public satisfaction with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic had declined. The opposition is likely to take advantage of the situation and pressure the President.
