The Minister of Defense Lt. Gen. (ret) Prabowo Subianto is on an overseas trip. He met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday (March 15) at the Élysée Palace in Paris, France. In the meantime, the new Commander of the Army’s Strategic Reserves Command (Pangkostrad), Lt. Gen. Maruli Simanjuntak, who is also the son-in-law of powerful Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, met with Germany’s defense attache in Jakarta on Wednesday (March 16). The said two separate events are worth highlighting because it is related to the modernization of the country’s primary weapons system (alutsista) and given the position of Prabowo and Luhut in the cabinet.

Corruption in Tulungagung: A New Suspect
Nearly four years ago the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a double sting operation in East Java. The Regent of Tulungagung Syahri Mulyo and the Mayor of Blitar Samanhudi were arrested. Both are PDI-P politicians. The investigation into the case in Tulungagung continued after the KPK named Supriyono, the chair of the Tulungagung DPRD, a suspect. After several months of trial, Supriyono was found guilty on Aug. 5, 2020. At the time, we expected the KPK to continue investigating as there were allegations involving other influential people. The KPK continued its investigation and recently announced a new suspect. The new suspect comes from the private sector.
