Eid Exodus & Presidential Campaign
The Eid-al-Fitr exodus (locally called mudik) has started. With over 70 million people expected to travel back to their respective hometowns to celebrate Eid with their families, it will be the largest migration since COVID-19 began to affect the country in early 2020. Interestingly, yet unsurprisingly, some aspiring candidates for the 2024 presidential race are using the momentum to campaign.
Corruption in BPK: Time for Change
In a series of sting operations conducted from April 26 to April 27, 2022, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained 12 people, including the current Regent of Bogor, Ade Munawaroh Yasin (PPP). During a press conference held on April 28, 2022, KPK named eight bribery suspects. Four auditors from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) are on the receiving end. In our records, this is the fourth corruption case that directly involved auditors and even members of the BPK in the last six years. It is time for BPK to fix itself.
Lemhanas Leadership & Acting Regional Head Position
Maj. Gen. Mohamad Sabrar Fadhilah has been sworn in as the new vice governor of the respected National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) in an inauguration ceremony held on Wednesday (April 27). The Governor of Lemhanas, Andi Widjajanto, was the one who led the ceremony.
Papuans Reject the Division of Regions
The Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) and the West Papuan People’s Assembly (MRPB) ask President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to cancel plans for establishing new provinces in Papua. The request was delivered in the recent meeting with the President at the State Palace Jakarta.
KPK’s Latest Sting Operation: Bogor Regency
Eight years ago, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) caught the then Regent of Bogor, Rachmat Yasin, and the then President Director of Sentul City, Kwee Cahyadi Kumala, a.k.a. Swie Teng, for corruption. Rachmat Yasin was found guilty in two different cases. Rachmat is still in prison, but his case has not produced a deterrent effect. From April 26 to April 27, the KPK detained 12 people, including the current Regent of Bogor, Ade Munawaroh Yasin (PPP), Rachmat Yasin’s younger sister.
Jokowi-Kalla’s Meeting
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reportedly met with former Vice President Jusuf Kalla in a private meeting at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Tuesday (April 26). The timing of the meeting is worth highlighting because a day earlier, the President visited the construction site of the Formula E circuit along with Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, who is known to be close to Kalla.

This year, 101 regional heads will end their term. Among them are five governors that will end their terms next month. We all wonder who President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration will choose to lead the said regions.
Corruption in Kolaka Timur: Verdict
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted five sting operations in 2021. One of them was the sting operation that ensnared the Regent of Kolaka Timur, Andi Merya Nur (NasDem). However, the problem in the regency is not that simple. Just weeks ago, the KPK announced the result of an investigation in the case and named Andi Merya as a suspect in the second case for allegedly bribing an official at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Regent’s attempt to take advantage of the Regional National Economic Recovery (PEN) funds is at the heart of the case. This week, Andi Merya is found guilty of the predicate crime.
Ganjar Leads the Poll, But
Two pollsters have just released the results of their respective electability surveys. Charta Politika found the Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, a politician from the ruling party PDIP, to continue leading the poll. Meanwhile, the Saiful Mujani Research and Consultant (SMRC) predicted the 2024 race would go into two rounds should three presidential pairs compete in the race.
