AHY’s Latest Move

Like the other aspiring presidential candidates, the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), is also busy with his courtesy visits using the momentum of the Eid-al-Fitr holiday. AHY, who is also the eldest son of the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), met with, among others, the ex-members of his father’s ruling coalition.

Business Groups & 2024 Race: Adaro

Major business groups like Adaro, Artha Graha, Bakrie, Djarum, Lippo, Mayapada, Sinarmas, Salim, and more are key financiers in Indonesian politics. It’ll be interesting to see where these business groups put their support in the 2024 presidential race, with only a year left before the opening of the registration of presidential pairs in September 2023. Let’s start with Adaro.

This article covers the four other acting governors that will be sworn in today (May 12).

Today, May 12, the five acting governors will be sworn in to replace the governors of five provinces that end their terms. One of them is the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources (ESDM), Director General for Minerals and Coal (Minerba) Ridwan Djamaluddin, who is known close to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime & Investment Affairs General (ret) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Tomorrow, May 12, Banten Governor Wahidin Halim and his Vice Governor Andika Hazrumy will end their term. But so far, there’s no official announcement yet from the State Palace on who will become the acting governor of Banten to replace Wahidin Halim. But again, it is likely that the State Palace will announce who will become the acting Banten governor today (May 11).

Anies & MRT Project

The Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has flown overseas on Tuesday (May 10) to start his eight-day visit to Europe. The Governor is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, and France to discuss cooperation for the development of public transportation, especially Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), in Jakarta.  

Ganjar & South Sulawesi Battleground

The Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, who has been mentioned as the strongest potential presidential candidate from the ruling party PDIP, spent his Eid-al-Fitr holiday visiting, among others, South Sulawesi province. Ganjar’s South Sulawesi visit is worth highlighting because the province is home to the supporters of Prabowo Subianto, who is neck and neck with the Governor in various presidential electability polls.

Jokowi’s US Visit

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will fly overseas today (May 10) to attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit in Washington DC, United States of America (USA). The President is also scheduled to meet with Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors. Before that, the President held a cabinet meeting on Monday (May 9) in which he handed his ministers directives regarding the COVID-19, the 2024 elections, and many more.

Eid Political Tours (2)

The aspiring presidential candidates continue their courtesy visits in light of the 2024 race using the momentum of Eid-al-Fitr. Among the said aspiring candidates, the Chairman of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto (also a defense minister), is still the busiest one.

Jokowi-Megawati Meeting

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met with the fifth President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP. The meeting is worth highlighting as the House Speaker Puan Maharani, Megawati’s daughter, pointed out that both figures discussed strategic issues in the said meeting.
