The New Minister of Trade & Cooking Oil Issue

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo ordered the new Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, who is also the chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), to soon reduce the price of cooking oil. The President delivered the said instruction during the latest cabinet meeting on Monday (June 20). Let’s talk a bit about Zulkifli and the President’s instruction to him.

Prabowo’s Meeting with Jokowi’s Son

Apart from meeting with the Chairman of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar, the Chairman of Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto also met with the Mayor of Surakarta Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. In addition to that, Prabowo held another meeting with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir. The said meetings are worth highlighting in light of the 2024 race.

Gerindra-PKB Axis

The Chairman of Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto and the Chairman of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar agreed to form a coalition for the 2024 elections. It’s not a surprising development for us because we’ve been writing extensively about the potential of the said coalition in the previous articles. The question remains, however, regarding whether or not Prabowo will run altogether with Imin in the 2024 presidential race. They have yet to determine the matter.

Ganjar-Anies: Pros and Cons

There has been a discourse on the prospect of pairing the Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and the Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in the 2024 presidential race after both governors received the majority support from the provincial chapters of Nasdem Party in the Party’s National Working Meeting (Rakornas). Let’s talk a bit about this potential pairing.

Paloh-Kalla Axis

Former chairman of the Golkar Party Jusuf Kalla attended the National Working Meeting (Rakornas) of Nasdem Party, a political party led by media mogul Surya Paloh. In the said Rakornas, the Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, known to be close to both Kalla and Paloh, got the majority support from the provincial chapters of Nasdem Party, which is the fourth largest political party in the House of Representatives (DPR).

End of Year Politics: Presidential Nomination

The Nasdem Party stated that its party chairman Surya Paloh will determine the presidential candidate in December 2022. The Gerindra Party also stated that the Party will declare its party chairman Prabowo Subianto as presidential candidate in the coming months, most likely end of this year. Is it a coincidence?

One More Round of Cabinet Reshuffle?

Media mogul Surya Paloh, who is also the chairman of Nasdem Party, dismissed speculation on the possibility of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to make another round of cabinet reshuffle in the near future after the changes made into the cabinet yesterday (June 15). But we cannot discount that possibility because there are nine vice minister positions in Jokowi’s cabinet that are still vacant.

Update on the cabinet reshuffle (3)

Zulkifli Hasan, chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), has on Wednesday (June 15) been sworn in as trade minister to replace M Lutfi, who was in that post in less than two years. That means only two political parties with seats in the House of Representatives (DPR), SBY’s Democratic Party and Islamic party PKS, are outside the government.

Update on Cabinet Reshuffle (2)

Apart from Hadi Tjahjanto and Zulkifli Hasan that reportedly will be sworn in as new ministers this afternoon, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is said appointing three new vice ministers this afternoon (June 15). But why only three? We all know there are ten vacant vice minister positions in the cabinet.
