Jokowi-Megawati Meeting (2)

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met with the fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP, at the State Palace yesterday (June 7) during the inauguration of the State Agency for Pancasila Education’s (BPIP) new management lineup. The President is scheduled today (June 8) to inaugurate the At-Taufiq Mosque at the PDIP’s Sekolah Partai (Party School of Regional Head Candidates) in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta whereas he will meet Megawati again.

Luhut, Projo & Golkar Axis

The Golkar Party along with PPP and PAN have formed a coalition for 2024 presidential race with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on last Saturday (June 4) in an event held at the Plataran, Senayan, Central Jakarta. Interestingly, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who is widely believed as President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s right-hand man, and Budi Arie Setiadi, the chairman of Pro Jokowi (Projo), were present in the said event.

SBY-Paloh Meeting

Pretty much as predicted, the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), who is also the supreme leader of Democratic Party, met with media mogul Surya Paloh, who is also the chairman of Nasdem Party. The said meeting is a follow up to the previous meeting between SBY’s eldest son Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and Paloh.

Luhut, PDIP & Unfortunate Event

A quarrel on the Gatot Subroto toll road between the son of a lawmaker from the ruling party PDIP and two people from the Bravo 5, a volunteer group of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the 2019 presidential election that established by a number of retired military generals, is under the spotlight. Given the political connections of the people involved in the said quarrel, the unfortunate incident could worsening the relationship between those within the President’s inner circle.

Yusril’s Latest Maneuver

The Islamic Party PBB proposes its party chairman Yusril Ihza Mahendra as running mate for either the Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan or the Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential race. The problem is Yusril’s electability is insignificant, and PBB is a very small political party.

Political Breakups & 2024 Race

2024 race is still two years away, but we’ve seen some political breakups here and there. Former Regent of Belitung Timur Yuslih Ihza Mahendra, who is also the oldest brother of former Minister and law expert Yusril Ihza Mahendra, jump ed ship from the Islamic party PBB to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s (SBY) Democratic Party. While M Taufik, a politician from Prabowo Subianto’s Gerindra Party, wants to join Nasdem Party.

Ganjar vs Puan: Tension Revived

The tension heating up once again inside the ruling party PDIP between the supporters of Puan Maharani, the daughter of Megawati Soekarnoputri, and the Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo. It’s unhealthy and, if any, it will only hurt the Party ahead of 2024 race.

Prabowo-Paloh Meeting

The Chairman of Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto, who is also the minister of defense, met with media mogul Surya Paloh, who is also the chairman of Nasdem Party. The meeting is worth highlighting in light of the 2024 presidential race.

PKS: Anies or Prabowo?

The members of the opposition party PKS expressed their support for Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to run in 2024 race as presidential candidate. The said support was expressed during the Party’s birthday anniversary event held at the Istora Senayan, Jakarta on May 29. But Anies aside, we cannot discount the possibility of PKS to regroup with Prabowo Subianto instead in 2024 race.
