Tensions flare between the ruling party PDIP and Democratic Party following recent statements from the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and his eldest son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). Today, Sept 15, Democratic Party holds its National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) at the Jakarta Convention Center. The Jakarta city legislative council (DPRD DKI) has nominated three candidates of acting Jakarta governor to replace Anies Baswedan, who will soon end his term. One of the candidates is Heru Budi Hartono, the head of Presidential Secretariat.

The Upcoming Muktamar Muhammadiyah

The Muhammadiyah, the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, will elect its new chairman in Muktamar (chairmanship congress) on Nov. 18-20 in Surakarta (Central Java), the home town of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. The President is scheduled to open the Muktamar. This event is interesting to watch in light of the 2024 race given the Muhammadiyah’s role in Indonesian politics.

The Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan, who is also the Minister of Trade, paid a visit to the officer of the Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo. The meeting is worth highlighting not only because of the Muhammadiyah’s upcoming Muktamar (chairmanship congress), but also in light of 2024 race.
