Tensions flare between the ruling party PDIP and Democratic Party following recent statements from the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and his eldest son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). SBY, in his speech at the latest Democratic Party’s National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas), claimed that he sees some worrying signs surrounding the 2024 elections.

The Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan stated that he’s ready to run for president in 2024 if a political party nominates him. Meanwhile, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), who has been mentioned as a potential running mate for Anies, made a confrontational statement toward President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in his speech at the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of Democratic Party.

The Muhammadiyah, the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, will elect its new chairman in Muktamar (chairmanship congress) on Nov. 18-20 in Surakarta (Central Java), the home town of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. The President is scheduled to open the Muktamar. This event is interesting to watch in light of the 2024 race given the Muhammadiyah’s role in Indonesian politics.

The Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan, who is also the Minister of Trade, paid a visit to the officer of the Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo. The meeting is worth highlighting not only because of the Muhammadiyah’s upcoming Muktamar (chairmanship congress), but also in light of 2024 race.
