PSSI Chairmanship Race: Erick Thohir v La Nyalla?

Pretty much as predicted, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir runs for the chairmanship of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). Among those supporting Erick to become the new chairman of PSSI is Kaesang Pangarep, the youngest son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. Erick may compete head-to-head against La Nyalla Mattalitti in the upcoming PSSI’s extraordinary congress.

No Surprises

Pretty much as predicted, PDIP leader Megawati Soekarnoputri didn’t announce the party’s president candidate in 2024 election during the 50th anniversary of the party on Tuesday (Jan 10). Megawati, however, hinted the party will nominate own cadre in the race.

The 2024 Race Dynamics (16)

Some expect surprises from today’s 50th anniversary of PDIP, the largest political party in the country. Surprises if party leader Megawati Soekarnoputri picks daughter Puan Maharani or former running mate Prabowo Subianto as president candidate for the party.

On Nasdem (Anies) vs Jokowi

While closely watching investigation by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) on corruption case at BAKTI, an agency under ministry of communication and informatics (whose current minister is secretary general of NasDem Party), let’s talk about NasDem, which has nominated Anies Baswedan as president candidate in 2024 election. We’re not saying BAKTI corruption case might drag NasDem, but who knows.

Paloh’s Next Maneuver

The Nasdem Party confirms that its party chairman, media mogul Surya Paloh, will soon meet with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), the supreme leader of Democratic Party, and Salim Segaf Aljufri, the supreme leader of the opposition party PKS. This upcoming meeting is crucial on determining whether Anies Baswedan, who has been nominated as presidential candidate by Nasdem, can get a ticket to enter 2024 race or not. If they fail to reach an agreement in the meeting, what’s the alternative option for Paloh and his Nasdem Party?

Awaiting Megawati’s Decision (2)

Kompas, the largest newspaper in the country, reported that the Chairperson of the ruling party PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri has made a decision on who will be nominated as presidential candidate for 2024 race. However, the name of the candidate and the date of the announcement remain a mystery. We might find out soon because there’s a possibility that Megawati announces her decision in the PDIP’s 50th anniversary event next Tuesday.

Those Opposing Perppu on Job Creation

It’s not surprising to see the opposition parties reject the new Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 2/2022 on Job Creation issued by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. What’s worth highlighting more is a harsh criticism over the Perppu from law expert and former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK), Jimly Asshiddiqie. Jimly, who is now a member of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), talked about a potential impeachment of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo due to the issuance of the Perppu.

The Indikator Politik Indonesia has released the results of its latest electability survey on Wednesday (Jan 4). The pollster found some interesting findings, including the correlation between the level of public satisfaction over President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the electability of presidential candidate who is potentially being endorsed by the President. The survey results have also raised some questions.

Jokowi’s Meetings

In the last few days, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met with some key leaders of political parties within his ruling coalition in separate meeting sessions at the State Palace Jakarta. These meetings are worth highlighting not only because it occurred amid rumors of a cabinet reshuffle, but also in light of 2024 race.
