The Saiful Mujani Research & Consulting (SMRC) released the results of its latest simulation on four presidential pairings. The pollster found that the ruling party PDIP will likely lose in a four-horse race should the Party enter the race alone with Ganjar Pranowo-Puan Maharani pairing.

Unsurprisingly, Ganjar Pranowo secured the most votes in the so-called Musyawarah Rakyat (Musra), a convention held by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s volunteer groups in Central Java province. In a related development, PDIP revealed that the party will announce its presidential candidate for 2024 race in June 2023. We all wonder whether the candidate will be Ganjar or someone else.

Today, Feb. 9, the Attorney General Office (AGO) will examine the Minister of ICT Johnny Gerald Plate, who is also the secretary general of Nasdem Party, in the corruption case at BAKTI Kominfo, an agency under the ICT Ministry. Both the examination and the case are worth highlighting in light of 2024 race and cabinet reshuffle.

The aspiring candidates seeking to run in 2024 race are preparing for their next political safari. Puan Maharani, the daughter of the PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri, for example, plans a surprise for her political safari this month. The opposition party PKS, meanwhile, will meet with Gerindra Party, its long-time political ally in the last two presidential elections.

Prabowo Subianto and Anies Baswedan have been invited to attend the National Working Meeting (Rakornas) of Partai Ummat or the Ummah Party, a new political party established by Amien Rais, next week. Over the weekend, Prabowo and Anies also attended the music concert of Dewa 19, a popular band led by Ahmad Dhani.

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who is considered the most powerful member of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s cabinet and the most influential figure in Golkar Party, once again met with media mogul Surya Paloh, the chairman of Nasdem Party. This is their second meeting after their first one in London, UK back in December 2022.
