Pretty much as predicted, the train moved faster within 24 hours since PDI-P formally declared Ganjar Pranowo as its president candidate. Some might have wondered whether President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo was caught by surprises with PDI-P chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri’s decision to announce the nomination hours before the end of fasting month Ramadhan. 

Ending years of speculation, Ganjar Pranowo, governor of Central Java, has on Friday (Apr 21) officially been nominated president candidate in 2024 election by PDI-P chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri.

More media outlets reported that Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairperson of the ruling party PDIP, might announce Ganjar Pranowo as presidential candidate today on April 21. If it’s true, Megawati’s meeting with the other party chairmen, including Prabowo Subianto of Gerindra Party, tomorrow on the Lebaran day (Eid al-Fitr) will be quite interesting to watch.

Rumors have been swirling around since Thursday that Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairperson of the ruling party PDIP, might announce a presidential candidate today (April 21). In the meantime, the Acting Chairman of PPP Mardiono has met with the Chairman of PKS Ahmad Syaikhu on Wednesday (April 19). The two Islamic parties, PPP and PKS, are approaching Sandiaga Uno.

Another new survey from the Indikator Politik Indonesia found that Prabowo Subianto took over the frontrunner position from Ganjar Pranowo. According to Indikator, Ganjar’s electability has been dropping significantly after the polemic surrounding the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Secretary General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, has confirmed the upcoming meeting between Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto, the chairman of Gerindra. Earlier, Gerindra already revealed about the meeting.

The opposition party PKS, one member of Anies Baswedan coalition, recently met with Mohammad Mahfud MD, the coordinating minister for politics, law & security affairs. Mahfud was being offered to become Anies’ running mate in the 2024 presidential race.

Anas Urbaningrum, former chairman of Democratic Party and ex-convict, told the press about his upcoming meeting with the Chairman of the PKN Party I Gede Pasek Suardika after the Lebaran Day (Eid al-Fitr). Their meeting is worth highlighting in light of 2024 elections since PKN is one of the political parties that will participate in the elections.

The ruling party PDIP is opening the door for a coalition, including with Prabowo Subianto, in the 2024 presidential race. However, the Party requires that its cadre becomes the presidential candidate. The statement was delivered by PDIP’s secretary general, Hasto Kristiyanto.
