The Options Left for Ganjar

Some people suggest the ruling party PDIP to let Ganjar Pranowo run together with Prabowo Subianto instead of competing against the retired army General, especially after the joining of Golkar and PAN into Prabowo’s coalition. As of now, however, it’s clear that PDIP won’t take the suggestion. So, what are the options left for PDIP and Ganjar?

The Current State of 2024 Race

The ruling party PDIP is still confident with Ganjar Pranowo’s chance at winning the next year’s presidential election even though Prabowo Subianto is now having the largest coalition following the joining of Golkar and PAN. PDIP compared the current situation to the 2014 presidential election when President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo won his first term after defeating Prabowo with a smaller coalition. The thing is, however, today’s situation is different compared to 2014.

A bigger coalition for Prabowo

So, Golkar Party and the National Mandate Party (PAN) have formally joined Gerindra Party and the National Awakening Party (PKB) in nominating Gerindra leader Prabowo Subianto as president candidate in 2024 election. Compared to the coalition political parties endorsing Ganjar Pranowo and Anies Baswedan, Prabowo’s coalition is the biggest in terms of number of seats in the House of Representatives (DPR).

Prabowo Gear Up for 2024 Race

Prabowo Subianto, a presidential candidate from Gerindra Party, continues to approach the family and the supporters of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo with the 2024 presidential election on the horizon. Lately, Prabowo was accompanied by the President’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is also the mayor of Solo, during an event in Solo, Central Java on Thursday (Aug 10). Prabowo, as we all know, is seriously considering Gibran to become his running mate.

General Moeldoko vs Major Agus: The End

The leadership dispute within the Democratic Party has ended following the Supreme Court’s (MA) ruling that rejected a case review filed by former Military Commander (Panglima TNI) General (ret) Moeldoko, who is now the chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP). With the ruling, the Democratic Party will remain to be led by Major (ret) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the eldest son of the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). What’s next for AHY and Moeldoko?

The State of PDIP Coalition

The ruling party PDIP, as we all know, has secured the additional endorsement for its presidential candidate, Ganjar Pranowo, from some small political parties. However, one starts to wonder whether PDIP can maintain the current members of its coalition or even expand the size of the coalition, considering the recent political dynamics?

Sandiaga & 2024 Race (2)

In a previous article, we’ve talked about what would happen if Sandiaga Uno fails to become the running mate of Ganjar Pranowo. The United Development Party (PPP) recently talked about the possibility of Sandi not being chosen by the ruling party PDIP as Ganjar’s running mate. So, will Sandi and PPP stay with PDIP in endorsing Ganjar, or jump ship into another coalition instead?

Ganjar & Gibran

While President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo met with Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace Jakarta on Tuesday (Aug 8), the President’s eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka accompanied Ganjar Pranowo during a working visit in Solo, Central Java on the same day. Both Prabowo and Ganjar are the two strongest presidential candidates based on various polls. Gibran, meanwhile, has been tipped as a potential vice-presidential candidate.

Another Jokowi-Prabowo Meeting

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held another meeting with the Chairman of Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto, who is also the minister of defense, at the State Palace Jakarta on Tuesday (Aug 8). This is Jokowi-Prabowo’s seventh meeting in the last three months.

Puan-Jokowi Meeting

The House Speaker Puan Maharani, who is also the daughter of PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri, held a meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the State Palace Jakarta on Monday (Aug 7). The meeting happened after Puan accompanied the President in welcoming the visit of the parliamentary leaders from South East Asian (ASEAN) countries.
