Democratic Party, led by the sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), is getting closer to Prabowo Subianto. Ganjar Pranowo, meanwhile, is leading the poll with a significant margin above Prabowo and Anies Baswedan, who has just received an official endorsement from PKS.
Ridwan Kamil’s Meeting with Prabowo Subianto
Former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, who joined Golkar Party few months back, had a meeting with Prabowo Subianto, the chairman of Gerindra, on Wednesday (September 13) at Prabowo’s private residence in Jalan Kertanegara, South Jakarta. From the photos of their meeting that Prabowo uploaded to his personal Instagram account, it seems like they were talking while having dinner.

So, we’re now about one month from the scheduled registration of president and vice president candidates for 2024 election. By far, Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar is the only known pair candidate entering the race even though NasDem and the National Awakening Party (PKB) are still waiting final confirmation of Islamic party PKS to join the ticket.

Anwar’s statement is truly worth highlighting considering the significance of the upcoming MK’s rulings in determining who is and who is not eligible to enter the next year’s presidential election.

The sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), who is the supreme leader of Democratic Party, and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto (the chairman of Gerindra Party), were seen together at the 64th anniversary event of the Veterans Association (Pepabri) on Tuesday (Sep. 12). Some people wonder whether it is an indication that SBY will regroup with Prabowo for the 2024 presidential election.
Military’s Term Extension Idea Revived Again
The Constitutional Court (MK) is now handling another judicial review request that once again attempts to amend the retirement age of military officers. The request has been filed by a number of active and retired military officers, including Rear Admiral Kresno Buntoro, the head of the Indonesian Military’s Legal Division (Kababinkum TNI). This legal battle is worth highlighting because the current Military Commander (Panglima TNI) Admiral Yudo Margono will soon enter his mandatory retirement age by November 2023.

Ganjar Pranowo met with Mahfud MD on Sunday (Sep. 10). The meeting is worth highlighting because Mahfud, the coordinating minister for politics, law & security affairs, has been mentioned as one of the potential running mate candidates for Ganjar, a presidential hopeful from the ruling party PDIP.
The Upcoming PDIP’s Rakernas
The ruling party PDIP will soon hold its National Working Meeting (Rakernas) on Sep. 29 at the JIExpo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta. This upcoming Rakernas is worth highlighting because many speculate that the PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri might announce the running mate for Ganjar Pranowo in the event.
2024 Race: New Schedules?
The General Election Commission (KPU) proposes to bring forward the registration of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for 2024 presidential election from Oct. 19 to Oct. 10, 2023. If the proposal is accepted by both the Central Government and the House of Representatives (DPR), then we’re only a month away from the registration of presidential pairings.
