Corruption in the Supreme Court : Trial

Back in September 2022, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a Sting Operation which revealed a confusing and prolonged dispute within KSP Intidana. Two of the suspects named afterwards were part of Intidana, by then we wonder why they insisted on seeking Intidana bankruptcy. Justice Sudrajad Dimyati was named suspect and managed to make history as the first Justice ensnared by the KPK. Soon after, the Supreme Court had annulled the disputed decision and reinstated Intidana to its pre-bankruptcy status. This decision is interesting because it was read just one week after the KPK confirmed that they had named another Supreme Court Justice as a suspect in this case, making him the second Justice to be named a graft suspect. The suspect is Justice Gazalba Saleh. This week, the trial of Sudrajad started.

On Corruption in Yogyakarta/Summarecon : Demands for Haryadi Suyuti

Last year, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) finally uncovered the corrupt practices in the city of Yogyakarta. The revelation many have been waiting for. The case eventually ensnared then Vice President Real Estate of PT Summarecon Agung Tbk (SMRA), Oon Nusihono. Unfortunately, the case did not reveal more than what was mentioned during the arrest. This week, disgraced Mayor of Yogyakarta, Haryadi Suyuti, listened to the prosecutors demands.

Police turned Murderer : Saved by the KUHP?

The five key defendants in the murder case of Brigadir J have been convicted. Ferdy Sambo, former Kadiv Propam, was even sentenced to death. However, this decision only sounds happy for the public. Until now, there are still questions that are confusing even for legal experts, including Mahfud MD, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of Indonesia. Will Ferdy Sambo really be sentenced to death?

Police turned Murderer : Death Sentence

Six months ago, a police officer was murdered at the official residence of a General whom he was supposed to protect back in July 2022. Brigadier Nopriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, also known as Brigadir J, is the aide to then Head of the Professional and Security Division at the National Police (Kadiv Propam), Ferdy Sambo. Later, POLRI announced that Brigadir J died of premeditated murder. Ferdy Sambo, his wife, his driver and two of his aides were named suspects. By order from the President, the investigation and inquisition were completed in just three months. The court proceedings, which were broadcast live across the country, also only lasted three months with too much drama and tears. We had doubts about the outcome of the trial from the start. This week, five key defendants have been convicted. The public cheered when Ferdy Sambo was sentenced to death, while Bharada Richard Eliezer (Bharada E), despite pulling the trigger and killing his own friend, somehow managed to become a media darling and was only sentenced to one year and six months in prison. We have lots of questions.

Minister Johnny Plate and Pressures on NasDem

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has named five suspects in the BAKTI case, the case related to a project at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. A lot of interesting things emerged in the process of examining witnesses, including the alleged involvement of Minister Johnny Plate’s relatives in the vortex of this crime. This week, the Minister finally answered the prosecutors’ summons and was examined all day on Valentine’s day, Feb. 14, 2023. Not much was informed to the public, but this situation added to the burden for NasDem.

Gazalba Saleh and Edhy Prabowo’s Cassation

The former Minister of Marine and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo, and the others involved in the corruption related to export of Clear Lobster Seed (BBL) were found guilty in 2021, one year after the scandal was uncovered. The sentence for Edhy was aggravated at the appeal...

Mardani Maming Found Guilty

The former Regent of Tanah Bumbu, Mardani Maming, who is former treasurer of Nahdlatul Ulama (the largest Moslem organization in Indonesia), was named graft suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in 2022. Mardani, a politician from ruling party PDIP, resisted the decision and a series of amusing events followed the process. But in a short period of time, Mardani, nemesis of Haji Isam (Jhonlin Group), finally surrendered. KPK quickly completed the inquisition stage and the Corruption Court at the Banjarmasin District Court began the proceedings in November 2022. Unlike the amusing inquisition process, the court proceedings continue far from media coverage. This week, Mardani was found guilty.

KPK Borrowed Officials and the Formula E Case

Earlier this month, the public was surprised by the news that a number of officials at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) returned to their original institutions. This is actually not extraordinary, but so far the public has not received sufficient information about the situation and conditions at the KPK. Apart from that, there were also those who used this incident to push for an examination of certain cases, including allegations of corruption in organizing Formula E races, a project that Anies Baswedan is proud of. The KPK was accused of being afraid to investigate Anies, but this accusation was immediately dismissed.

New Problem for Rekayasa Industri

PT Rekayasa Industri (Rekind)—a subsidiary of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) seems to be having a lot of problems. In less than a year, this company has faced two Suspension of Debt Payment (PKPU) lawsuits, the latest coming from PT Kobexindo Konstruksi Indonesia (PT KKI, formerly PT Kobexindo Forklift Indonesia) —a subsidiary of PT Kobexindo Tractors Tbk (KOBX). This is not the first time that Rekind has faced legal problems, the lawsuit reminds us of the old dispute between Rekind and the company, which ironically is related to the Thohir family.

On Corruption in Ambon : The End?

Last year the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) uncovered alleged corruption related to the approval of the principal permit for the construction of the Alfamidi branch in Ambon City. KPK named three suspects including then Mayor of Ambon, Richard Louhenapessy. The court proceedings started just four months after the case was announced, far from media coverage. This week, Richard was found guilty, but questions remain.
