Cases Against Dahlan Iskan
We initially thought that Dahlan Iskan, former minister of state-owned enterprises, would be named suspect in the case being investigated by the national police over misappropriation of CSR funds at some state companies. Turned out that Jakarta Prosecutors’ Office (Kejati) named Dahlan suspect in a case when he was president director of state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).
The Maritime Security Agency
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo began his reign by concentrating on the improvement of maritime issues. Not long after the President took office, the House of Representatives (DPR) passed the bill on Marine Affairs proposed by the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) into Law No. 32/2014. A key point in said Law is the establishment of the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), which is an expanded version of its progenitor, the Maritime Security Coordinating Agency (Bakorkamla).

On Thursday Jun. 5, Sutan Bhatoegana Siregar, one of the key leaders from SBY’s Democratic Party, at his trial mentioned the name of SBY’s youngest son, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono a.k.a. Ibas. The New Regulation on Land Acquisition
In March, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo issued the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 30/2015 regarding Land Procurement for the Development of Public Interest to revise Perpes No. 71/2012. This regulation was made in accordance with the mandate of Art. 53 and Art. 59 of Law No. 2/2012. Perpres No. 30/2015 paves way for enterprises to carry out land acquisition under the condition that these enterprises are authorized to do so under an agreement with state institutions, ministries, provincial governments, state/local enterprises with special assignment from the government, or other institutions set out in the Perpres.
Corruption in Bappebti
The money laundering case implicating the former Head of the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti), Syahrul Raja Sempurnajaya, has entered a new phase. On June 3, 2015 two former officials of PT Bursa Berjangka Jakarta (BBJ) were indicted to five years in prison by the Prosecutors (JPU) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court.
A Presidential Instruction to Protect Officials from Criminalization
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reportedly is preparing the substance of a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) that would protect state officials working in the fields of infrastructure from being criminalized. The Deputy of Infrastructures at the Ministry of National Development Planning Dedy S. Priatna said that the Inpres is being developed in order to make bureaucrats feel confident when adopting development acceleration policies.
Getting Ready for the Haswandi Effect
Judge Haswandi’s decision to accept the pre-trial of Hadi Poernomo, a graft suspect under the investigation of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), is causing a new problem. In his ruling, Judge Haswandi stated that the KPK had violated procedures in the process of naming Hadi Poernomo a graft suspect. Key in this opinion is Haswandi’s realization that the KPK investigators handling Hadi Poernomo’s case was not a member of the Police institution.
On the Case of PLTU Sumuradem : Yance is Free
The panel of judges of the Bandung Corruption Court that presided over the graft case of Irianto “Yance” Syafiuddin, the former Regent of Indramayu, decided to acquit Yance from allegations of wrongdoing. Yance was accused of abusing the state budget in the process of acquiring land for the thermal power plant (PLTU) in Sumuradem, West Java between the period of 2004 to 2006.
Hadi Poernomo’s Pre-trial Challenge
The sole presiding Judge of the South Jakarta District Court, Haswandi, granted the pre-trial petition of the former Director General of Taxation Hadi Poernomo against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The judge ruled that the process by which Hadi Poernomo was named a graft suspect was unauthorized.
