Akil Mochtar’s Bribery Scandal & the 2015 Regional Elections
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) captured and detained the Regent of Empat Lawang, Budi Antoni Aljufri, and his wife Suzanna on Monday (July 6) evening. Both were declared suspects in a bribery case related to the Empat Lawang post-election dispute. Budi Antoni is the fifth regional leader implicated in a bribery scandal related to the handling of post-election dispute at the Constitutional Court (MK). There were more of such scandals, and they’re all centered on the involvement of the former Chief Justice of MK Akil Mochtar. The question now is how many more regional leaders will be named as suspects?

Proposed Licensing Simplification for the Construction of Buildings

The board has proposed two changes on building construction licensing regime to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (KemenPUPR). The latter has responded well to the idea.
Suryadharma Ali’s Graft Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named graft suspect Suryadharma Ali, ex-Minister of Religious Affairs under Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s administration, a graft suspect in a new, separate case. Acting-Deputy Chief of KPK Johan Budi made the announcement last week. He did not, however, share any details of the new case. The new case reportedly emerged from the previous case of alleged abuse of the Ministry’s.
KPK Against Pretrial
Ever Since the Constitutional Court (MK) ruled that the determination of suspect is included in the pretrial object, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been defeating twice in pretrial hearings—in the lawsuit filed by Ilham Arief Sirajuddin and Hadi Purnomo. The KPK is currently carrying out various efforts to re-investigate the involvement of Ilham and Hadi in two different cases of alleged graft.

The Government versus Bakrie Telecom
Ministry of information and communication affairs has appealed to the Supreme Court related to court ruling on debt restructuring of the troubled telecommunication company PT Bakrie Telecom (BTEL) Tbk. The government asks the Court to nullify the court-sanctioned restructuring.
The New Government Regulation on Water Management
The government is nearly done preparing the draft Government Regulation (RPP) on Water Resources (RPP SDA) and the RPP on Water Supply System (RPP SPAM). Both RPP is designed to respond to the revocation of Law No. 7/2004 on Water Resources (UU SDA). The Constitutional Court (MK) previously declared the UU SDA unconstitutional after having found several articles in the law biased towards commercialization of water resources. And so the Law No. 7/2004 was revoked, and the Law No. 11/1974 on Water (UU Pengairan) came into effect once more.
